Dating a h&r topper jr.
I have a H&R Topper Jr. Model 480 that belonged to my now deceased father.
I would like to date this gun if at all possible it has no serial number anywhere that I can find. The stock appears to be real walnut or a very good stain job followed by years of dirt and oil. Tomorrow I will be 58 yrs.old and I remember this gun being around when I was a small lad. I believe the trigger guard and forend filler to be plastic and not bakalite as it has a high polish finish. I'm not trying to put a value on this just want an idea as to how old it is. I could post a few pictures if needed. |

Pictures would help. I would think there are some numbers somewhere if you break it down to to where you can remove the barrel from the action.

I have taken it down that far and there is nothing. I think you must have to remove the stock for the serial number. On another forum someone found a listing that showed dates that different were made and the 480's were made between 1958 and 1961 but said nothing about any with barrels as short as this one.
