Marlin model 55 slugfest 2012

Hello to all,
I'm posting because my grandfather passed a few tears back and this christmas I inherited his model 55 goose gun. For those of you who aren't familiar with these shotguns they are bolt action with a 36" barrel and a full choke. I plan on making my grandfather proud and using it instead of mounting it on a wall. Does anyone have any experience shooting slugs out of these guns? I threw a few down range today and managed to keep a 2" group at 50 yards however I'm hesitant to continue shooting slugs because of the length of the barrel and full choke, the sheer power coming out of the darn thing is like shooting black powder.

maybe you should try the reduced recoil loads? less powder might give ya some more peace of mind when shooting it

I've never had any luck shooting deer slugs thru full choke. Consider yourself fortunate. Back in the 1950's a writer proved that deer slugs do not damage full choke barrels. Can't recall the writer, might have been Warren Page.
