Silence a shotgun?

Is it possible to quite these puppies down? I've got a maverick 12 gauge

It's pretty much an trail of money and futility. There have been a couple of attempts in suppressing scatterguns, the amount of suppression and the added weight to the muzzle of the gun have not been worth the noise reduction.

Thanks, that anwsered my other question ( if there was how if it would be a effective to carry) Another thing, does it make it louder if you shorten the barrel?

Why sceptical?

Do you think it's not that surpressed enough or is the projectile effected adversely?

Sound reduction on a 12ga shotgun; Red Jacket Firearms...

I was going to bring up the cable tv series Sons of Guns but another member already did. Drat!
I think there is a open source message board/forum about firearm silencers(or the more correct term; sound surpressors).
Try www.Silencertalk.com .

I'd also go over the Class III or ATF regs/policy about these devices.

to answer your question...

yes, a gun will be louder with a shorter barrel (I don't think anyone answered that yet). And it doesn't just seem louder because it's closer to you. It IS louder. I'm not sure what the actual decibel difference would be though between and 18.5" barrel and a 28" barrel or something in between.

Hastings used to market their "Metro extension", which was a 3 feet long barrel extension that screwed into the choke thread at the end of the regular barrel. While not absolutely quiet, it does muffle the noise enough to make hearing protection unnecessary. While long, it is not altogether unwieldy for stationary use. It's original intent was for things like geese control in city parks. Got to shoot a Beretta 391 with one - swung nice on crossing targets
