Looking for ASM 1858 cylinder
I have an 1858 Remmie made by ASM, sold by CVA.
It is a great revolver, the cylinder is still ok, but I would like to have another or two. Where would I find a quality replacement that will fit?

When was your ASM made? I heard that older ASMs may take a pietta cylinder, but some of the later ones would take a uberti cylinder. Got any friends with Pietta or Uberti remmies?

Not sure when it was made. I will take a look at it tomorrow and see exactly what markings are on it. Will post what I find. Hopefully this will help to narrow it down.

Noelf2-
Man, I can't get any friends to shoot the BP. They look at my Revolvers, Shotguns and Rifles like they are from another planet. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my modern cartridge weapons also. But that boom and smoke grabbed me a long time ago. Not to mention that my BP revovlers can out shoot many modern pistols. Maybe I need new friends. I hooked my dad up with a Pietta 1851 couple of weeks ago, went to the range with him, he never fired a BP gun before. Anyway, after about three cylinders he was hitting 10 ring, one handed at 15 yards, not every shot but enough. Think I may have him hooked.

ASM parts....
....As you have learned, are scarse as hens teeth. I think that many who are saying they have ASM parts really have recently manufactured parts which they think will fit.
People like VTI and DGW go through their parts quick enough that the stock purges itself. The small ones like Winchester Sutler for Euroarms (ASP) parts and Deer Creek for ASM may still have some old stock laying around. I picked up a Euroarms cylinder for an 1851 from Winchester Sutler a coupla years ago. It was the last one he had and he had to go scrounging around his barn to find it. I never asked him about ASM parts because his forte is ASP. You might try those two Deer Creek Waldron Indiana - 765-525-6181 Winchester Sutler - Winchester, VA - 540 888-3595 Deer Creek went into some hard times about a year ana half ago, I think because of health problems. It appears that a young man (perhaps the son) has taken over and the operation is a good bit more useful now. Winchester Sutler will likely be answered by a woman who will yell for someone else when you ask a technical question.

There's the Pinetucky Gun Club and the Tactical Advantage Sportsmans Complex in Augusta both of which offer outdoor muzzle loading:
http://www.wheretoshoot.org/find_ran...04BF6&Option=R http://www.wheretoshoot.org/find_ran...01FL4&Option=R http://www.pinetucky.com/ Here's a list of shooting ranges and clubs in Georgia put out by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. There may be more clubs located near you. http://www.wheretoshoot.org/find_ran...subresults.asp You can locate their proximity to Augusta by using Google Maps: www.maps.google.com The closest SASS clubs to you are in Covington, GA about 2 hours away. http://www.sassnet.com/clubs/Clubs_l...?state=Georgia There doesn't seem to be any NMLRA clubs that are located near you: http://www.nmlra.org/clubs.asp?WhichState=GA Last edited by arcticap; June 12, 2012 at 01:19 PM. |

Steelbird-
It has AZ stamped in it. Right in front of the trigger guard. So this makes it a 1990. Thanks for that link, bookmarked it for future reference.

kICKIN' MULE-
Just wondering, what type (Brand, Vintage) of 1858 do you have? I love all BP guns, but the 1858 is is my favorite (I will leave the ROA out of this) original model. I'm always curious to hear what others have and how well their guns function.

I've got a Euroarms 1858 Remington stainless steel, bought from the shotgun news back in 1975. At that time I picked it up for $112.00. It is such a good shooter, I have not been disappointed in it. I don't have to patch the ball, because I use a .454 and swedge it against 30 grains of pyrodex. I switched from gun powder back in the 80's, and I was surprised how clean it performs.

arcticap- nice links.
It is a beautiful area. Biggest problem here is a nanny state mindset, drives me crazy the laws and restrictions this state puts on its citizens. Oh well, stuck here for now.
