Of the gear I keep in my truck...

... the first aid kit, entrenching tool, tool box, and jumper cables have all seen use on the road at one time or another. These have been used for the benefit of others, thus far, but one of these days I might also need them for myself.

The fire extinguisher has not, yet. Neither has the survival blanket.

The tire chains almost saw use in December.

(I sometimes drive in snow/cold conditions.)

So far, guns and knives haven't been needed, which is nice, but I'd rather have and not need than need and not have.

Even a fairly light handgun will curl a regular dress belt.

Add to this a phone holder and some other things like a knife in a holster and maybe a pepper spray holder and you get enough weight to ruin a belt.

Worse yet, when the belt curls, you start dropping stuff all the time.

It's a massive pain in the -you know-.

Starting with a belt strong enough to maintain it's straightness means you have one less thing you have to worry about.

Haven't been attacked by the BGs yet.

I generally tend to supply myself by "usage demand". In other words, the more I use it, the more likely I'll have it on hand.

The more I get attacked, the more SD gear I'll carry. I figure by @ BG attack
# 63 I'll have worked myself up to a Batman Belt...

Not a batman belt, but a GOOD gun belt and ALWAYS pepper spray when I am armed (which is always, when outside the home).

My carry scheme is: gun at 3:30, either IWB or OW; spare mag(s) at 8 o'clock; SureFire E2D-LED at 10 o'clock, pepper spray in my rear left pocket; and a Kershaw folder hooked inside my front left pants pocket.

Lethal on the right, and non-lethal on the left.

I alway carry everything in the same place, so I will know where to grab what under stress.

Because the law and common decency require that I only use as much force as necessary to stop a threat, I see it as my responsibility to have more than one force option available.

So I have four, if you include the blinding light of the SureFire.

Yep, it is needed if you carry. Spend the cash.

Lord knows 21 years of wearing a Sam Browne belt full-time has indeed exacted a toll on my hips and back. What's worse, the !?% thing seems to get more crowded [and thus, heavier] every few years. I do carry on my own time, but I try to take the minimalist approach...just the essentials. Gun, badge, cuffs, pepper spray, 2 reloads, my Surefire if I'm out at night. Of course, that bare minimum is not exactly light, but it IS less weight than I wear while on the clock.

You know, it's funny, granted I've only been carrying for two years, but, since I carry IWB, and everything else rides in my pockets, I can get away with a standard civillian web belt with a print on it.
