300 Win mag Hornady free bullets
I'm ready to send for my free 500 bullets from my LNL press rebate, and want to get the most for my money. I'm rather new to reloading rifle rounds and want to load some rounds for my T/C Venture rifle chambered in 300 Win Mag.
Here is my question: in the rebate form the only option for .30cal bullet is Hornady PN 3031, 150grn interlock SP. http://www.hornady.com/store/30-Cal-.308-150-gr-SP Will this work good in that rifle? Just shooting at targets 300-400 yds. While we're at it, what is a good powder to use for this also? Looking at the factory loads sold by Hornady, they do not use that bullet, they use the boat tails. Thanks for the help and advice in advance. |

That bullet is a great deer hunting bullet. It has good terminal performance and a good BC. As a pure target bullet, it is OK but you could probably do better. If you REALLY want to punch targets and not shoot animals, get the free bullets and trade them off to someone for some target bullets. I think I paid somewhere around $23/hundred for them (in 180grn) just recently. I'm thinking you could easily get $100 for the box of 500 here on the forum.

Ok get and trade out or sale the 150gn bullets.Thats if you do not own another 30 cal rifel, say a 308.If so then just shoot them in it.
For me with my 300wm I like to shoot a 208/210gn bullet. As of now I am shooting the 208gn A-max and I really like the way they shoot. My powder choice is H1000 that really works for my load. But hey its my rifel and loads like it my opinion. a 180 or better just seems to do metter for me.cannot for the life of me see why many people like to shoot a 300wm useing a light bullet.Heck isn't that why the call it a Magnum. But thats their choice not mine. If you do go up in weight the powder choices would be H1000,7828,either 4831,and Retmbo.Yeap one more R22.MY top choice for a 180gn bullet might would be R22 and either 4831,and 7828. so hers my 2 cents.hope it helped |
