Loading the 7MM express

Just traded a stock set that I made for a .280 barrel for a H & R break-action, and am wondering how many of you reload for the .280 Rem/7MM Express? I'd imagine that it will like the same powders as the others in calibers in the 06 cartridge family, IMR 4895, IMR 4350, H 414, RX 19, RX 22. I'd like to know what's the favored weight bullet for this round. My first thought is to try 150gr boattails, as my favorite load for my .270 is a 140 gr bullet and for the .30-06, my son and I like the 165 gr SSTs. Opinions please?

Here's the stock set I traded.. with no finish, just a good rubdown with the 320 grit. I would also be interested in a set of .280 AI dies!

Both 280s I load for, mine and my sons, like 139 Hornadys or 140 NBT under 55gr of RL-19, CCI200, RP Brass. Max for that combo is 57gr, but 55 shoots cloverleaves with an extreme spread of 24fps. In my son's 26" barrel, it's 3027 for the NBT and 3080 for the Hornady. In my 22", it's 2957 for the NBT.

I only have one 280 and it is the Remington Mountain rifle (buggy whip barrel) but I have had very good results with Sierra 140 gr. Spitzer, Remington brass, 9 1/2 Rem primers, 52.8 gr. of IMR 4350 powder, with an OAL of 3.210". It is listed as the accuracy load in the Sierra 3'rd manual and near max with a book velocity of 2800 fps. My most recent loads had pretty flat primers but the extraction was fine.

22" barrel and it is a dream to carry in the woods. But I never really expected match grade accuracy from it. Several whitetails have died of a sudden dose of lead poisoning from it.

What are you going to use these on? For deer I go along with 140 grains. For elk or moose, step up to 160 grains. My friends and I have killed over 20 moose with the 160 grain Accubond from 7mm mags. Your 280 will do the job just as well with less fuss. We use the 160 grain all around as we don't want to have to resight all the time.
