Hornady 150 grain Spire Points?

Picked up a box for 50 million round march today. I know this sounds silly, but our local shop had soooo many stop in and buy a box, it was all he had left in .308, and all he had was some CCI Maxi-Mag+V's, and my 22WMR hates those.

What are your experiences with the "Spire Point" bullets?

I use the Hornady Spire point, 150 gr in .308, and the 139 gr Hornady in 280 Rem. (7mm) Very accurate in my rifles, and have killed three mule deer and one antelope with them. Very effective. FWIW. J.B.

IMHO, the Spire Points and the Core-Loks (remington) are the two most underated factory loads out there.

I have had wonderful accuracy in a couple of .308s' using the Hornady stuff. The Remington ammo has never delivered wonderful accuracy, but seems very consistant.

I have not had any good experiance with WW Power Points - those seem too soft to me.

I use the 154 gr. Spire point in my 7 mm magnum. I've tried other rounds, but none grouped as tightly as the Hornady (3 rounds within an inch at 200 yards). As for performance, it's accounted for a mule deer, antelope, 2 carabou, several whitetail, and 4 prarie dogs, all with outstanding results. However, the prarie dogs took several rounds to stop, because when they're wounded and mad they take a lot of killing!
Just kidding, the Hornady Spire point is the only round that I hunt with.

I use Hornady 150 gr .308 Spire Points to reload. I also use them in .311 for Brit .303 ... 150 Spire Points (and 174 RNs).

They are accurate and the .308s performed well at around 2700 fps on 160 lb whitetail. I like 'em.

My father used them in his '06 for some 40 years. He usually got not only his two deer, but a lot for other guys. From what I saw, they work real good.

I used them, and the Bronze Point, until Sierra beat them to production with the 150-grain boat-tailed bullet. No other reason; I just wanted the flatter trajectory for the occasional "too-long" of a shot. They all group the same in my rifle.
