Compare the M2 ball projo with the M80?

When ordering milsurp .30 caliber, I have a choice of the m2 150gn FMJ flat base or the M80 147gn in FMJBT. They both cost the same, and I'm loading it for use in a Garand '06. Which projectile would you advise?

Its a toss up. Some Garands like the M2 it was used extensively in cal .30, while others like the M80, which was used mostly in the 7.62. Probably the best way to go is to order a small amount of each, and work up loads with each, and see which one your rifle likes best.

The only difference is the location of the crimping groove on the bullet.

The higher BC of the M80 will usually let it stay supersonic a little past 600 yards.

The M2 will almost always go transonic/subsonic by 600 yards, which really messes up your group sizes and lets any wind blow it all over the place (horizontal dispersion).

In .30-06, the M80s will look a little odd and a bit short. If you have no plans beyond 500 yards, just work up a load with each and use the one which is more accurate. Reliable group size comparisons are possible at 30-shot samples. I do six five-round groups.
