Shooting Basics

I don't remember where I saw it but two young women were shooting from the bench and their rifle barrels were resting on sandbags !! Someone should have told them - never rest your barrel on anything . That's what the fore end is for ! This is why many rifles now have free floating barrels .Don't mess with the vibrations !

Ohhh, it's not just the ladies!!

Tell someone once a week not to do that.

Surprised at the number of AR guys that do it.

Yup - just saw it on this vid clip yesterday. You'd think folks who are so into guns and so proud of it would know better...

"...This is why many rifles now have free floating barrels..." That's not why barrels are floated, but you're right. The forestock belongs on the rest. Nobody tells anybody anything, anywhere.

IME, the worst shooters I've seen are often those who've been doing it the longest. Nobody can tell them anything, because they know it all already .

It's been a couple of years back but at the old MDC range near by where I live I explained to a young fella shooting by himself how that could effect his POI shot to shot.
The volunteer range attendant was listening to our conversation and between my sons and self we heard him explain the same to I think three other shooters before we left the range that day.
Nice older gentleman no doubt, but it's funny that he was like a youngster with some new knowledge to share.
Especially considering his position as range officer/attendant.

That someone could have been you. Just saying. It's all in the approach.

Yes that was just demonstrated. The OP could have offered a bit of advice. If they said yes he could have shared his insight with them. If they said no, he could have walked away knowing that he had offered to help.
