What's with SHTF threads and handguns?
A handgun is a last resort weapon, that's why armies only issue them to ancillary personel.
When the SHTF gimme a rifle! 7.62 X 51 is preffered, but a 5.56, or a 7.62X39 will do.... just my opinion....

It's hard to go out to dinner with a Mossberg in your pants.

As a general principle, I'd agree with you.
But there will be times where you do not want to advertise the fact that you're armed. There are times when you'd like to avoid the attention of over-stressed police or inexperienced National Guardsmen.

My first choice if the SHTF would be a rifle. Could be a .22, .357, .30/30, whatever. As long as it's a quality arm, a rifle beats everything, hands down.
Next choice would be a shotgun, preferably a 12-gauge. Doesn't have the range of a rifle, but close up it's rather effective. Most of us don't have much opportunity to brandish a longgun very often, and that's where the handgun comes in. I'll be the first to concede that a handgun (any handgun) is no match for a longgun, but if that's what you have at the time, it's better than nothing. |

Sorry guys; we don't do SHTF, TEOTWAWKI, or zombie threads here.
Closed.
