Para P-14 rail cutted
Hi.
A question to Para experts: I have a P-14. It´s almost new. I bought used. Alloy frame. First model, RL 27xx. The left rail, in the alloy frame (integral rail), has a little cut, exactly above the security pine window. Is it normal ? Original cut ? I think it exists to permit the metal to job in critical area, and not crack the frame. I learned about this solution in Colt Gold Cup in 10mm. Anyone have similar pistol with this cut ? Who knows anything about this ? Thank´s and sorry bout my English. |

Post a picture papa..We can't see it, we can't tell you. By the looks of it, just being on one side. It doesn't sound too normal if it looks like a crack already..

I´ll take a picture and ´ll post here...
The cut seems like proposital. It´s regular and with not perceptible nude metal (corner metal are black, like the rest). Only in left side. Right rail is integral. And the frame doesn´t have a visible crunch (???), a crack. Thank you Constantine. |

I had an alloy frame p13 that had the same thing. I think it was put there for heat expansion.

That's something manufacturers have been doing for a while now on 1911's. I believe Colt started it with their Delta Elites. That small section of rail above the slide stop nub is a bit of a week point, and can crack under stress. The crack doesn't hurt anything and the gun will still function fine. To prevent the rail section from cracking, Colt just started milling away that small section of rail and most manufacturers have followed suit.
