EAA Witness match for a non1911 are good shooters, start in the $700.'s and go up from there depending on what you want or what your state will allow.

If you want a range gun a good 1911 is really hard to beat. As a personal defense tool most of the other options would be a better choice. You didn't sound like you had completely ruled one out in the OP. Give them another look.

A good 1911, that is one that sticks to JMB's original design will get better the more you shoot it. Eg. the more rounds the smoother the trigger will get. You may need to replace the recoil spring after 2-3000 rounds.

I have been using them since 1958. It is still my favorite and I own several differen't pistols in .45ACP.

I agree with JDBerg-as much as I like the SIG Model 220, I traded mine toward the Model 227. A few extra rounds and the fact that the double-stack magazine grip actually fit my hand slightly better were significant enough pluses for me to make the trade.

I know you said 1911's weren't your cup of tea, but they are one of the most accurate handguns out there. If you want accuracy, look no further than a 1911. Anything else is just something to spray bullets at a target. Besides, you did say you wanted it for accuracy, not self defense.

Another vote for the CZ-97B. It has rendered my 1911's to gun safe duty. I know blasphemy, but that's reality.

Hi all,
It is very nice of everyone genuinely trying to help the OP RickCoop.
It frustrates me however to see people start a thread and then just disappear and not be active in their discussion.

RickCoop started this thread on Wednesday March 28th and now 2 weeks later and questions that were asked of the OP to better be able to help him and he is nowhere to be found.
I just don't have any respect for people doing that.

If you do not want to be active in your thread / questions then why even start it.
Maybe to just sit back and watch people invest their time to try and help, as you chuckle at their effort!

Though I say look at the P320 RX Compact or Full Size with the Romeo 1 Red Dot!
My first Red Dot and I love it!
So, if you like the P320 you will really like the RX Red Dot version.

Just woke up..My bad...the RX version is 9mm only.
I think that they should offer the P320 RX across all calibers.

The only 45's I've ever fired are 1911's, and a Ruger Blackhawk in 45/45. I like both of them, but I'm not sure you would.

The advantage of the revolver is you don't have to chase brass.

The Crown is Mother and Father, The Crown Protects...nothing.

Canada has few capacity restrictions, so a really FUN .45acp is the
Star Megastar, 12rd mag standard, also comes in 10rds.


Of course, they quit making 'em back in 1998, but the only thing ya ever need are springs
and if you put over 100K rounds thru it ya might need a new firing pin...

Accuracy is important?
If you happen to be near Port Clinton, Ohio this coming July, stop at Camp Perry, on Friday the 13th....the day of the .45 caliber national pistol championship. Walk down the line and take a survey of what some of the best shooters in the country are using.
You are not gonna see CZs, Glocks, Sigs, etc. (fine weapons each). You are gonna see 1911s.

I had a 220, couldn't warm up to it. Hard DA first pull, high bore axis, single stack mag. I currently have a CZ 97b, but frankly the S&W M&P really interests me.

This guy has it.

The most shootable/comfortable 45 I've ever owned is an M&P45 full size. Better than the Sigs, H&Ks, Walthers, etc in 45acp that I've owned.

They could pick any of the fine firearms mentioned here. They don’t..virtually all of them pick 1911s. How much money they may spend on their guns is not important....they start with the 1911. Buy a Gold Gup. It will shoot well out of the box.
Try a Springfield Armory “loaded” 1911. Another out of the box shooter.

I was surprised that up until now, that the Gold Cup was not mentioned. Probably one of the best shooters I own right out of the box. As a matter of fact I'm a bit of a trigger snob and this one has NOT gone to my LGS for trigger work.

The only other gun I own that has not gone in for trigger work is my P320. I mean, Sig did some work in the recall but among my striker fired pistols this one really shines.

I've had my SA XD45 Service Model for 8 years now. Thousands of rounds without a single failure. The Gen 2 with the new grip just make it even better! Girlfriend just picked up a Sig P320...would recommend this as well.

If you have any ranges near you that rent guns go there and try all that you can.

I can't stand the grip on a Glock and don't like the triggers either. I do like 1911's and CZ's and copies. I have not tried but think I'd like the available Sig .45's. Let me reiterate my first sentence. While I know you're looking for suggestions until you've tried them you won't know what you like.

Second would be a CZ-97. Hefty and accurate from the time I spent behind it. A SIG P220 SAO might be a good option, too. Are you getting the trend? single action, cocked & locked FTW.
