CBS/NYT Poll Finds Majority Oppose AWB For First Time Ever

http://hotair.com/archives/2015/12/1...rst-time-ever/

Shortly after the NYT editorialized in favor of widespread gun bans and confiscation, a CBS/NYT poll that has been run since 1997 finds a majority opposes AWBs.

Wow clearly something is wrong at CBS for them to have let that truth out.

Politicians and mainstream media are completely out of touch with how this country feels about quite a few issues.

It is too bad they don't have polls from 2000-2009. I bet it would show exactly how much the Internet saved our bacon.

Should we award CNN/NYT a sad panda?

So if "this layer of government" is so out of touch, do we really need them? In the age of the Internet, is there a case to dump both houses of Congress, and go to a pure democracy instead of a (suppose to be) representative democracy?

Say hello to President Al Gore - who decisively won his presidential popular vote.

You would be defending yourself with a solar powered taser.

Wonder if this change in attitude over so called assault weapons is due to their prevalence on tv shows and in movies?
It's hard to watch even a single night of tv without seeing them.
And not only in the hands of the villains, either, these days.
Maybe we can thank all the shows about humans vs zombies for their recent acceptance.
Maybe, in this case, familiarity does not breed contempt.

If you think the electoral college is no longer a relevant concept, consider how you would like being controlled by the voting populations of just ten large urban areas in this country. Just LA/Orange Counties, San Francisco Bay area, Denver, and Seattle/Portland would control the political future of the country west of the Great Plains. The rest of the people living there can go pound political sand, their votes will be meaningless.

If you don't believe that then just take a look at the states involved to see where the political power lies.

It frightens me to death, Hillary in the White House.

Trump? He is a very good business man, a Government is a business, he would do OK. But the right people in the right jobs. That would be a good start.

I can not see him bowing his head to anyone.

AWB He would just say Why?

The last poll on that list is 2011. My guess is the results closely follow an ownership trend. Both direct and with friends and family.

Here is the real "problem" In a direct democracy Democrats will gain a huge advantage in both the ?General assembly? and presidential election. Small states are disproportionately represented as they still have 2 senators and a resulting 2 votes in the electoral college. Even a few votes moving to proportional electoral representative distribution wrecks the Republican chances.

I'm sure Trump thinks that. I do not. It is in many ways closer to a non-profit and For prfit CEOs rarely do well running non-profits.
His net worth is not known and there are MANY business-people who are quite upfront about avoiding him in business. That doesn't work well in politics.

Guys, election politics and Donald Trump are off topic for this thread.

I can't agree enough. In the dark days before the internet became ubiquitous (back when Hootie & the Blowfish were a thing), it was very difficult to keep people informed or organize anything larger than a small group at the local level. The conversation was controlled by a few newspapers and media outlets. We couldn't get heard.

Now that's all changed. Our opponents are still relying on old-media analogues (op-eds in Huffpo and Mother Jones), but they can't get much of a fire started on social media.
