WOW ... but for a couple thousand more I could have bought a really nice (and beyond rare) Japanese Type 5 from a dealer in Texas!

For 22,000 I will just buy a new car and drive closer to the target.

Wow, you mean they have already come down $5000 since December? They used to be $27K.

They are actually $22,500.00 and I can't lie if I was filthy rich I would have one. I heard that they have merged with Remington and they want to get the price down to $5000.00.

As soon as they come down to $5,000.00 I'll still pass. If I was at war or had more money than sense sure would be nice. But where's the challenge. If we go to war I'll just use my .22 LR to shoot the guy with one and take his.

I for one have a hard time believing their claims. My cell doesn't work half the time. I have not heard that the military are interested. If it worked seems they would be all over it.

Accounting for wind takes time/practice, that setup won't do that for ya.

ISniper, new .338Lapua.....
This high tech bolt action reminds me of some of the plot elements in author Steven Hunter's; I, Sniper.
The Tracking Point rifle is super cool. I'd want it in the .338Lapua caliber. I'm also left handed so I guess I'd need a custom rifle for a few grand more, . The rifle is marketed for high end safari & big game hunters but the specs/features make it scary for any homeland security or EP agents. Pretty soon these Texas guys will add this Tracking Point rifle to a drone. Yikes.... |

The millitary is the reason they built it! Darpa's been working on two differant rifles like this. And yes they do comp for wind. Darpa's are laser guided. The bullet follows the lazer so the wind has little effect.

Ain't nothing scary about us Texan's, we just do what we want, when it needs to be done, with whatever it takes.

Let's say the rifle does everything its manufacturer claims. What have you then? And what part do you play in the equation? Well, you're basically just a game collection robot pulling a trigger and letting a mechanical device handle all the marksmanship on your behalf. I don't think I'd want that for free, let alone paying $22k for the privilege of being an automaton.

Put me behind the trigger. I don't want to brag, but I think I can help it along the way to poor accuracy.

I haven't gotten a real life demo, but I have gotten to shoot the virtual demo (with the real gun) at the NRA convention. Is it worth the price tag? No way.
The shooter still has to determine the windage and input it into the ballistic calculator. And when you are shooting out to (and past) 1,000 yards there is typically more than one wind that you are dealing with. |

Would it be cool to have? Yes. Would I hunt with it? No way.

The main down fall of the system is the shooter still has to estimate the wind.
You could have a million dollars worth of technology in a rifle but if the shooter still cant accurately estimate the wind it'll be of no use what so ever. |

Some may find it a bit disconcerting that it may not actually fire when the trigger is squeezed, but waits until the gun is back "on track". I think it would take some getting used to.

It really doesn't take much to get used to. Pull and hold the trigger down while you're off target and then guide the reticle back to the tag. The biggest problem I had was the trigger was so danged heavy I though the thing was on safety for several seconds

perhaps I am just misunderstanding things. It seems to me to just be a fancy complex sighting system, and not one that can exert ANY control on the bullet in flight. A bullet cannot "follow" a laser. A bullet does not see a laser. And a bullet does not steer inflight. Things that do that are not bullets. They are guided missiles.

They are using conventional rounds. How would that round go about following the laser?
I honestly LOVE what they have done though, wish I could afford it. They DO have a 25mm shoulder fired weapon with range set explosive rounds, seen that on future weapons, so probably far more functional these days. To get the round to track the beam would require far more hardware than we can put in a .223 or 7.62 round. |

Fellows all it does is simply release the hammer at the perfect time when the reticle is perfectly placed where it was "tagged" the bullet leaves the muzzle at hopefully the perfect moment.
