Throwing your own clays

How can you throw your own clays (2 or more).

I see it done once and awhile but when ever I do it they go strait up...

How is it done?

They make a hand thrower ....a plastic "sling shot" looking thing ...that works pretty well.

Most guys can't throw a clay - with a bare hand - that is really a "shootable" target... / its best to have a partner, throw them for you ...( you want to get them out there 25 or 30 yards / to have any fun at it )...

I do have the hand thrower.

But I am talking kind of like this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcpB2l-ljnc

Or what they did in the first season of Top Shot.

Part of Tom Knapp's success as an exhibition shooter has been perfecting his target toss. Like attaining many of life's goals, it requires practice.

Tom isn't throwing them too far up in the air ....I've been present at a couple of his exhibitions ....and they're great ...but he's only tossing them about 30 feet in the air ...and about 10 feet in front of him ....so sure, it can be done, like Zippy says, with some practice...

But no, I havent spent any time fussing with it .../ but mimic his actions in the video ( bend knees, get your shoulder and arm into it ...and toss em ...).

I throw them like a Frisbee. I can't throw them sideways like Tom, but throwing like a frisbee works well. I have thrown up to 4 of them, but Im not quite fast enough on the trigger. I use a mossberg 500 20 gauge, so I'm sure that with a benelli autoloader I could break one or two more

clays

I enjoy those videos - Knapp, Flanigan, Matthews. The effect of the video, though, is to make it seem like the clays are being thrown much further than Big Jim reports. It was good to read that - better perspective now.

Yeah, I suppose. I wonder, after looking at those exhibition videos, how many shells were fired by each of those men on their way to acquiring their skills.
And how many clays were thrown.
If they are throwing the clays up about 30 feet or so, they only have about two/three seconds to shoot. Gotta be fast.
