Take a year off from shooting centerfires and practice with rimfires. Try stamp collecting, or bottle caps. Refinish your bathroom. Take a cruise. Forget about ammo for awhile and be calm. Eventually there is gonna be an ammo fire sale of all the hoarded ammo, or a revolution, one or the other.

I have no trouble getting ammo from my local gun shops. It's a little more expensive, but it's there.

The hoarders are the ones who keep emptying out all the online vendors and the wal-marts. Screw that, your local gun store deserves your business anyway.

I am beginning to see some ammo on store shelves now, where a few weeks ago there was nothing but shotgun shells available. Supply still has a lot of catching up to do, though.
The local Meijer's had zero .22 rimfire in stock, but had some handgun and rifle ammo on the shelf.

That's the key. All of my local gun stores (about 8) have always had ammo. Only the major chains like Wal-Mart have empty shelves.

Is this post a mistake? Now I can see everyone coming to my area and buying from the local gun stores. Next thread will read "local guns stores no longer have ammo".

OP - Have you gone ahead and placed a back order with any of those places you mentioned? If you had a while ago, your orders would have been delivered by now. No different than the DMV - take a number, get in line, wait your turn - it'll happen

I cant find much of the cheap plinking stuff around here at local shops. And Walmart is a waste of time has been since last October. I am not sure when it will break, but I hope by next year at this time we are up to our necks in ammo.

I really want to shoot my 1911 !!!!!! been almost 6mnths ... & although I dont shoot my .380 thant much its still been to long!

There are still scattered shortages. Some real and some perpetrated by people still hoarding and buying every box of ammunition they find in their caliber of choice.

I can tell you at the gun store I frequent there is plenty of 7.62x39mm ammo, silver bear, Wolf Military classic, and a couple other brands. I would guess at least a couple thousand rounds on the shelf. There is plenty of 5.45x39mm ammo, I don't know how much but the shelf slot for it was full. I don't use this so I didn't pay that much attention. The shelf slots for 223/5.56mm were full also with a few different brands. I don't use this either so again I don't know the exact amount.

They also had several boxes of various .45acp ammo, 9mm, .40, and .38. There were others but again if I don't use it I don't pay much attention.

Plenty of new and used pistols of all varieties in the case. At least 6 AR-15 type rifles, a dozen or so AK variants, a couple M1A's. 2 CETME's, 2 or 3 M1 Carbines, a couple of Garands, Saigas, SKS's a couple of semi auto Tommy Guns and some goofy looking bull pup 5.56mm rifle.

I seriously think the worst is over and unless people **** themselves all over again and panic buy maybe things will return to normal. Well, with the exception of higher prices. Although 7.62x39 ammo has dropped almost $7 for 100 rounds at this gun shop.

Remain calm, all is well.

In Oregon our local discount sporting/general store, Bi-Mart just started getting some ammo and components in enough volume this week that they stay on the shelf a few days.

We picked up some more .22LR (Remington golden bullet that a AA conversion unit likes), 400 SP Remington primers (most they allowed per purchase), and they had some bulk boxes of 9mm and .223. Still on the high side but not what it was a month ago. About $450/1000 on the .223 versus the $700/1000 ashort time ago. For months their shelves have been BARE. So this is small supply on the shelves is encouraging. Hopefully in a few months the supply becomes more regular and prices come down some more.

So it seems supply is slowly starting to catch up. Part of the demand is from a flood of new shooters trying to get started. I have personally helped half a dozen friends and family get guns and go shooting for the first time with my supplies in the last nine months. Currently reloading for yet another family shootfest next month.

I had a very unpopular opinion of this whole "crisis" with ammunition and some guns. I believe panic buying brought on by the election of Obama was the cause of this whole mess. The fact that this far into his administration not one single new gun law has been passed, or even brought forward, has calmed the waters some. Of course it could change at any time but the fact is that unemployment, corporations on the verge of bankruptcy, healthcare, the Iraq war, Iran and North Korea have kept the administration busy enough to put guns on the back burner for the time being.

I do agree that the 525 round bricks of Remington .22 I used to buy have been competely gone for months. Makes me glad I bought about 3000 rounds before the crisis hit.

Not necessarily.

I ordered 500 rounds of 9mm UMC from Bass Pro in late March. The website showed it in stock until I completed the order, then it showed as backordered. I just looked at my account again - the order is still there, shown as backordered. Same thing with Midway - ordered 500 rounds of 9mm on April 4, supposedly in stock when I ordered. Today, August 9th, my account still shows that as being backordered.

Meanwhile, I've found enough ammo here and there that I haven't suffered too badly.

I was at a local shop yesterday, and they wanted $25 for a 50-round box of Winchester 9mm FMJ. Pretty sure I used to pay about $9 for that same box at Wal-Mart.

Of course, I've only seen 9mm in my local Wal-Mart once in the last twelve trips.

I passed on the $25 ammo. I'll shoot .22 for a while.

Sorry to hear of your situation. I live in Texas on the border. Lately things have gotten a lot better as far as the supply of ammunition. The WalMart closest to me just got in a very large shipment of ammunition including Federal 9mm, 40 S&W, and .45 ACP. They also received both Federal and Remington .22 LR bricks. Our local Academys also have good supplies of ammo available. Are there any larger cities nearby to which you could go?

Visited my local gun store again today. No more Wolf Black Box 7.62x39 on the shelf. But there was silver bear and golden bear and plenty of it. All kinds of .223/5.56mm, 4 different kinds of .45acp ammo and plenty of it.

I don't reload, too lazy for the most part, but I took a stroll down that aisle and there seemed to be plenty of powder of vrious brands and sizes of containers.

Also, more EBR's than the last time I was there.

Again, it seems to be lessening here. Your location may not be so lucky.

I know cci, winchester and remington are made in the states. The real problem is guys are hoarding all the primers. Every time i get a case or two in these guys come in and want them all. I know several have told me they have ten thousand plus. I try to keep a couple thousand of each in my personal loading stash. These guys all act like they are never gonna make another primer. I get primers in and the next day they are all gone. I will never ration and only sell guys one brick. Hey first money on the counter buys whatever the guy wants. But same deal with ammo. Lots of dealers around me are limiting boxes of primers and ammo. I kinda think thats disrespectful to not sell something when its in sight of the customer. But I dont see any end in sight to this cycle thats going on.
