For non-corrosive SGA and sportsmansguide usually have silver bear at a decent price. That said, I love some 7N6

I will actually be shooting a 'how to clean a rifle after 7n6 video' this weekend because I get that question all the time.... so stay tuned. If you watch my Tantal review I'm using 7N6 the whole time.

7N6 is a type of 5.45 round that is an excellent performer in all aspects--reliability, accuracy, terminal performance, ect... that was made in insane numbers buy the Russians in the 70s and 80s. It's corrosive and that's about the only downside to the round. Sportsmansguide has it now for 1080/$139 shipped, which is 13 cents a round. To me the additional cleaning is worth it; especially with the quality of the round.

http://www.ammoseek.com is an outstanding tool, it's like Google but specifically for ammo. I've found plenty of deals on several different caliber.

Edit: I prefer 7N6 as well, cheap excellent round in all aspects. Cleaning doesn't bother me.

Thanks guys. I'm going to get some of that 7N6, as well as some of the Wolf. I googled the 7N6, and it seems to be the benchmark as far as terminal performance.

I have a S&W MP15 in 5.45 and had some problems out of the box with Silver Bear 55HP. Bullets were jamming the throat hard enough to be pulled when attempting to eject a loaded round. I sent the upper back to S&W for service and it returned working OK. I honestly believe this ammo is made using .223 bullets slightly swaged to .222 diameter(still too big). RWS bullets measure
.2205 on my device. It appears most of the current ammo has proper sized bullets.
Neither the S&W or CAI AK74 like the Wolf 70 grain. It is only suitable for short range since it produces occasional keyholes @25 yards.

7N6 is tough to get right now. I popped onto SG's site 2 weeks ago and they had just gotten a load in. I ordered a 1080 round spam can on Saturday and it was at my house Wedensday evening. 3 days later they were sold out. They still have some 600 round lots and 300 round lots in stock. The $139 price was a few months ago. It's $169 right now for non members. Also, it's steel cased, berdan primed, and so non reloadable like most eastern bloc ammo.

Tangentially related; how do you like the Krebs selector? Seems good, but it seems like thinner gauge metal. So it feels a bit flimsy compared to the standard one that came on my Bulgy 74.

I love it. I have it on all my defensive AKs---it's one of those products that make you ask "why didn't someone think of this sooner?" If I had the tools to rivet/weld I'd just make one myself and never buy one but as I move all the time my tools are limited. It's the best functional AK improvement you can make outside of a red dot in my opinion.
