Taylors Smoke Wagon Questions

Hello everyone,

Picked up my first revolver, a Taylors Smoke Wagon "Taylor Tuned" in 357 and have a couple questions. I cleaned it up out of the box, but the barrel was something else. I would run a patch or two through it, then the brush, and continued this for about 15 patches or so probably. At first they were coming out brown, then what looks like lead. Barrel looks fine with a light, but the lead just kept coming; I finally gave up. Typical with these Uberti's?

Also, the ejector sticks if I push it all the way up and slide my finger off; I have to push it back the other direction for the spring to take it back. If I stop short, it seems to do OK. Is this normal or is something binding up?

Nice lookin' gun.

If you have lead in it, order some Chore Boy from Wally World.

Then cut enough of a piece and wrap it around a brush or bore mop and start pushing it thru from breech to muzzle.

The barrel will be lead free in no time.

Then use a good bore cleaner (I like Bore Tech Eliminator) to get the rest of the crap out of the barrel.

What does this lead look like ?
Just gray-cast patch, or actual flakes/strips ?

notwithstanding either of the above, If the barrel looks like a mirror after dry patch ... it likely is.

Don't be surprised if the Walmart clerk gives you the stink eye for buying Chore Boy. Meth and crack heads buy it for their pipes, acts like screen. Some PDs consider it drug paraphernalia and reason to search.

That would be a neat trick...cleaning a Single Action from the breech end of the barrel to the muzzle. A flexible cleaning rod, no doubt.

-Remove cylinder.
-Push bare rod through muzzle down into cylinder space.
-Screw on chore-boy-wrapped bronze brush.
-PULL brush/chore-boy through -- breech to muzzle.

I have a bore snake for each handgun caliber and my 12 guage.

On a brand new, imported gun, there may be anticorrosive on the otherwise bare metal bore. I would try mineral spirits for the first swab. Hold off on any wire brushes. Use the plastic brush. Note that the gun may have been fired, if it includes a certification bullet.

I order online and ship to store for free. If you are not guilty, then why worry about a search?

Some PDs might consider it drug related, but they have more sense down here.

Have you ever stuck a rod in a revolver barrel, then screwed on a brush or mop & then pulled it thru??

Come on man, use some common sense instead of blasting everyone that does not conform to your standards!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Wasn't able to find the Chore Boy at Wal-Mart, but I did find it at a local grocery store. Will give it a try tonight.

The Chore Boy seems to have done the trick with the barrel. I took the ejector housing off the barrel to try to figure out what was causing the sticking and rough travel. Is this kind of wear normal for never having fired it? Ive just loaded it and unloaded in my living room with snap caps.
