Marlin 795: My Review
So I just put up my range review of the Marlin 795 a couple days ago, and I was wondering if you guys would want to check it out? I love this thing and wanted to share my experiences with it.

I think you did a very good job with the video. I have a Marlin 60 and have no experience with the 795 or 10/22 but from my research your review seems to reflect the pros and cons of what I have read. My only suggestion and I understand this is easier said than done, would be to get a hold of a 10/22 and put it through the same paces as the 795 for a review and comparison. Anyway, well done video, keep up the good work.

Thanks for your feedback, Targa.
A Ruger 10/22 is likely going to be my next purchase. Maybe that nice Davidson's exclusive with the lime green laminate stock. I would probably end up doing an in-depth side by side comparison of the two, feature by feature if I can find the time to plan it out, since I'm pretty bad at going off the top of my head. But thanks again, I appreciate it.

Thanks for the input WV. Yeah, it's definitely a plus for the 10/22, not accounting for the length of the extended mags. But there are pros and cons to both, and to each their own.

I've had a 10/22 since 1976.
It's been a good rifle. Heck.. now I've got several. Full blown customs. Then , I buy a marlin 60.. And another... then another.. Awsome shooters. Finally, I bought a marlin model 795. .. I just love the bloody little thing !! It's my favorite rifle now.

Great to hear, Buckweet. You really just can't go wrong with a 795.

I tend to like to resist the common path, so my first .22RFs were Remingtons. I still have a 572 SpeedMaster (Pump) as my only manual .22RF, and it is a decent rifle. Then I moved on to Marlins. I still have a 922M and a M7000. The 7000 is a great shooter and I greatly enjoy shooting it.
At some point, my desire for a suppressor led me to 10/22s due to the ease of barrel swaps and the large number of barrels that were threaded. Now I have 3 of them and the wife has her own. While only two have Ruger receivers and bolts, the ease of maintenance, reconfigurability and options makes them a more preferred platform for most of my .22 work. I have them set up for different purposes, some of which the M7000 could never be better. Now, accuracy out at 100 yards, the M7000 has an edge there, especially based on cost. Are 795s better or worse than 10/22s? Nope, just different. Depending on the use/purpose, one might be easier or cheaper to set up than the other. |

I absolutely love my 795. It has put more than a few bunnies in the stew pot, and it will put all 10 in a dime sized hole all day long. My 10/22 TD is almost as accurate - perfectly fine for bunnies, but not as tight on paper. Of course, I have never had the desire to make paper stew, so that isn't really a big deal to me.
The 10/22 gets the nod for my favorite, though, since the take down feature makes it more versatile, and, as someone else has already mentioned, the flush fit mags are just a better design. The 25 round mags for the Ruger are also a huge deciding factor for me.
