Winchester 1892
I have the opportunity to purchase a winchester 1892 chambered in 38 wcf.
It is not in the greatest shape but is still somewhat nice. I haven't had the opportunity to examine the bore, I was able to see some rifling from the muzzle. Gun seems to have an even patina over all the metal. This gun belongs to my wife's papaw. Her mamaw is going to sell me what is left of his collection to help prepay for a funeral. I have a couple of pics that are not the best. I am looking for a ballpark value as I would like to give her a good price for the rifle. I know it's not in perfect shape but these are the best pics I can get now. |

With out being able to see the complete serial number, 71XXX5 ?, it appears
that your model 1892 was manufactured the of 1912. I would say a good starting price with out seeing the rifle in hand would be at $650.00. Others will chime in to, just wait a little bit.

710145 is the serial number. 1912 is what I was thinking also.

Lastly, a picture showing the whole rifle would be good too, left and right side
views so we can see what configuration it is...rifle or carbine. Carbines and Trappers have a higher value.

Hello
That sporting rifle was actually manufactured during 1913. There is basically no original bluing left on the rifle and just a bit of brown patina. The gun would have no interest to collectors who cherish high condition guns and most would consider it a "shooter" class rifle. IF the bore is in decent shape I would agree that $650 would be right about top dollar for it. There should be a two line barrel address stamp on the left side of the barrel just above the metal end cap. Is the magazine full length? Michael |
