Remington 700 .450 BM

Anyone used a Rem 700 SA to build a .450 Bushmaster? Thanks

That would be an interesting build, as I've got a few 700s. I confess that my Bushmaster AR puts 5-250FTX into one 1/2" hole, so I've got my 450. An upper with a heavy recoil buffer is all you need to come in hundreds less than a 700 build.

Since https://www.remarms.com/rifles/bolt-action/model-700/ lists .450 Bushmaster as a case I don't see that there should be a problem with feeding if done correctly.

I just remarked that this is the smithy section, so I assume you are doing this as a requested conversion/build. Sorry, to have been annoyingly obnoxious to have responded like it was a simple rifle question.

Is this one of those "straight wall" case requirements? If so, then likely should have been mentioned.

No, but I'm building a 93 Mauser in 450 Bushmaster!
I've built a few 98s in 444 Marlin.
I've even made a few in 44 Mag.

Feeding is all about presentation to the chamber. A 700 should be a piece of cake.

Stagpanther, Not a bit annoyed by your reply. A long time ago I spent 20 years as a Smith and as times have changed I ask a lot of questions from others before I consider a hobby build. You never know so much that you can't ask!

Well, I thought I was being obnoxious. In any event, unless you're absolutely in love with that particular cartridge and the idea of putting it in 700 action--and dealing with the fun of bolt configuration and getting a magazine configuration that works--I'd just buy a ruger american 450 BM and be done with it, or get an AR upper. Seems like a waste of a 700 action to me.

The .450 BM is surprisingly a decent mid-range round, I've shot a ton of deer with it in the last 5 years. The ranges around here not long (250 Max) and the .450 is up to the task in my 22" Ruger American. The .450 BM and .350 Legend have pretty much cornered the market in lower Mich with sales being excellent! One of the first things one notices is the factory offerings are all at the bottom of their builds, Cheap plastic stocks, feeding issues and a few more. Having a few Rem SA actions still on hand from the years that I did Varmint builds for P Dogs out west I thought I'd do one last build for my young Grand Son.

Yeah! That actually sounds excellent in that context.
