How about a nice Savage 340? Usually quite affordable and later ones will be D and Ted for a peep sight, so you could actually shoot a group.

If you gotta have a new rifle, (but why?), The model 70 Alaskan can be had in 30-'06, but the barrel is longer than 22". Personally, I think 24" barrels are about perfect for a bolt-action centerfire. |
