I give up, anyone else accumulate tons of parts...

On Thanksgiving I was looking for an ambi safety I told my brother in law he could have, while we were looking for it he said "you can build a 1911 with whats in this drawer", I said no, I don't have any good barrels, he reached in and pulled out a brand new DW barrel that came out of my specialist {had a smith convert that one to 400 corbon}, I said "yah I forgot about that, I have 2 of them" so I started putting the parts on the bench, barrel, slide {I have a complete Baer marked slide from my bullseye, it wasn't cut for sights and i wanted a rear handle so instead of having it cut {I had shot it about 10K times} I had baer fit a new slide with sight cuts, I have at least 10 triggers, tons of small parts and pins, and grip sets I don't think I could count, I have 3 sets of VZ's that I didn't like the color of after they arrived, hammers, sights {lots of dim night sights, lol, plus some factory adjustables}, ect...

I have everything to build an entire 1911 in that drawer, plus much more, I even have a Springfield frame that Springfield replaced for me {the trigger well was machined wrong and their fitter just machined the trigger to work in it, I found the issue when I went to change the trigger, I called them, they said to send it in and it came back with a new frame as well as the old one, so I have had it all these years, the gun would work, I just need to use that machined trigger, OR machine another one too match...

So after that took 15 minutes of separating and sorting he said "so you gonna put it together" and I swept everything back in the drawer and handed him his safety...

Thats what happens after years of buying, building, customising, the same gun gets you, a big drawer of parts and memories, but that got me to thinking, I have a TON of AR15 stuff and I got rid of my ar15's {new laws forbid them around here}, so this weekend I went through a bunch of the parts I had and put them all in lots, took pictures, labeled them and then listed it all on ebay 22 auctions!!!!

about 4 hours later I get 22 emails, "auction ended, auction ended, auction ended"!!! Because I put AR15 in the title they cancelled all the auctions!!! Hours of work gone...

So I called my buddy at a semi local shop {he is out of state but only 30 minutes away, makes sense right? You can have AR's there but not here!!! I told him the story about ebay and he said "well what do ya have", I sent him all the pictures, and he texted me back "$3000 cash or $4000 in store credit, no ammo, no consignments" So I replied "$4500 store credit, you pay transfer fees" {hes out of state so they have to take pistols here and have them transferred, by ffl in my state}... He OK'd the offer and asked me to drop it all off today before 12...

Its well worth it for him, I'll bet he makes the money back with just triggers and barrels, I have 3 brand new {some installed but all look new in packages} Geissele triggers, 2 timneys, 4 RRA 2 stage jobs, and countless other trigger parts, 2 brand new wilson barrels, 2 used wilson barrels {not 556}, 4 complete uppers, 5 brand new BCG's {nice ones not mil specs}, then so many bags of mil spec parts, I have removed for people over the years and they let me keep, stripped uppers, hand guards, ect...

I am sure I could have gotten more on ebay, but they have their rules and this is much easier for me, I have them all packed up and I am leaving after my coffee to drop it all off, and as for the store credit, I have a few thousand in there now from left over from that last time I cleaned a safe out and got rid of all my ar's, and guns I haven't touched in years... But he said he got some new shotguns in that are interesting so I will see what that means, hopefully a nice EELL grade Beretta Pigeon V 30" sporting, that would make me a nice xmass present, my buddy wants to buy my White onyx so badly, lol it may be time for an upgrade...

I have ~~ a ton spread out over 60 some cartridges.
I helped a guy move who is also retirement age, and he had ~~ the same 2,000 pounds spread out over 10 cartridges.

He bought a house 900 miles from here, and it had a huge gun safe in the basement. The seller got it out. We hauled my friend's gun safe 900 miles and lowered it into the basement. We tied ropes on it and ropes to the truck and inched the truck forward as the safe went down the steps.

I am now thinking of hoarding smaller stuff, like knives, handguns, reloading dies, and chisels.
No more speed boats and tractors.

connecticut, NO AR 15's unless you had them registered by last year, and every mag over 10 rounds needs to be registered, no pistols over 50 ounces, no no no no, all BS, but its where I live...

I still own 4 ar-15's, one wilson combat in 204 ruger, 1 tactical bull brl custom, and a 556 lwrc custom, 1 308 custom build, they are in my buddies safe in RI, I will be selling them soon because these laws look to not be changing....

I built a 4500sq foot house out here a few years before NewTown happened, otherwise I would have never done it, I agree it was a tragedy and I guess if this makes a victim feel a little better, WHAT EVER, although I feel and know its not right or fair, but as my grandfather used to say "fair is for the tales, because it don't live here"...

On a happier note, I got rid of all the parts, and I bought a silver pigeon- EELL grade V , it is in stock at the distributor he ordered it while I was there, so I haven't seen it, but EELL V should be amazing, but he is charging me for it thats for sure $4450 plus tax!!! Heres one for less and no tax, BUT its local and I won't buy something on the net that my dealer can get locally... http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=456047752, Ill have it in 8 days...

I don't have nearly as many parts as you, but I don have a bunch of take-offs, and parts from guns I no longer own....some I haven't owned in years. I keep thinking that I should gather it all up and post them for sale on this forum.

On a related note, up until last spring I had a bunch of motorcycle parts in the garage for bikes that I no longer have too...sold them to a local guy that sells old MC parts out of his garage.

I also have skid plates for a Jeep I haven't owned since 2008

This is a sickness, lol..

I bought a generator brand new about 3 years ago, the lights went out and I couldn't get it started, it was still in the box, I had to unbox it to try and start it, of course the battery that came with it was junk and it was dark since there was no power, but this darn thing would not run, so I went and bought another one, that one started right up so I use that one, the other is sitting in the garage in the corner, brand new cost me $900 and never started, I also never tried to start it again, I am sure it will run, its a brand new generac, but until the other one dies or someone steals it it will just sit there and take up space..

I also have the engine out of a chopper I built in the garage, I sold the chopper with a cheaper engine about 3 years ago figuring I would do something with the expensive SS engine, but nope, just sitting there...

I honestly could raise around $35-40K if I cleaned my garage, I have a used once Miller plasma cutter in there, 2 brand new robinair recovery units, 2 sets of edelbrock aluminum bb chevy heads, a demo saw and some other tools I will never use, plus so much more.. Its just a waste, I would be happier if it was empty, I get chest pains when I walk in there...

I have not reached that point of spare parts with guns - yet!
I did reach that point more than once with small & big block Chevy engines.
I still have 3 complete engines siting here is pieces.
I don't race or build engines any more; just can't bare to not have them if I need them.

I have a 572 GM performance crate engine in my work garage, lol but that is not spare, that is going in my 69 z-28, lol, the original DZ motor is long gone, I bought it already converted to a big block, done right, very nice, just had a 454 shop built engine in it, I got a crazy deal on the 572 crate {$8000 brand new, guy bought it and gave up on the project, never uncrated it!!!}....

When you are in a hobby for a while you accumulate a lot of "extra" stuff...

heres an old picture, lol but you can see the new genny in there, this is a 4 car garage and that is the cleanest side of it... I am also going to start up that snow blower some day, that was a very wise $2000 purchase about 2 years ago, its just way easier to pay the guy to plow, and I have a plow on my duramax...
