Odd Calibers

Anybody shoot odd calibers? I shoot 17 mach 2, 9mm largo and 32-20 sometimes. What are you hardest to find calibers you like to shoot?

My oddest caliber I guess would have to be 6mm remington. Not that odd but it is obsolete. I used to shoot factory ammo in it and it wasn't super hard to find, but I load for it now. The only other obsolete caliber I own is .35 remington. I also have a 16 gauge shotgun that is hard to find shells for at times.

I currently shoot the 6X47 Rem, .250 Savage, .300 Savage, .338-06, .358 Win, and .35 Whelen. I have owned at one time .223 AI, 6.5-06, .280 GNR, 8mm-06, and .375 JDJ. The short list of cartridges I want to try .358 Norma or STW and 6-204 Ruger and maybe a 6mm Dasher or XC.

300 Super, improved 300 Weatherby Magnum

375/338 Win Mag, for me it is easier to neck down 458 WinMag than neck up 338 WinMag.

7.92X57 (8MM Mauser) is my only "odd" caliber weapons. Performs roughly like a 30-06 and can be had for about the same price from Prvi-Partizan. I do worry that ammo may not be available someday...

.221 fireball
.220 swift
.250 savage
.303 british
.38 S&W
.45 auto rim

reading through this thread it's kindof interesting what some people consider odd. 8mm mauser, 22 hornet, 303 british... those are just about as mainstream as sporter cartridges as you can get.

Granted I haven’t shot it yet but I am working on the gun (missing one part) so I can shoot light paper cartridges.
58 caliber Burnsides.

I agree. I didnt even mention my 8mm mauser as one of my oddballs. Ammo is pretty plentiful for it as are brass and bullets.

The closet thing to an oddball I ever shoot is 6mm Remington out of Pop's Remington 600.

Sort of oddball, slowly growing obsolete out of a different rifle.

Pop bought it new as a teenage in circa 1965. I think it is a neat rifle and neat loading.

If you want to pay $40 for 20 rounds of underpowered Remington 8MM Mauser then you are right, if you want a decent round at a reasonable price though, you are reloading or buying Serbian.

Hornady and Sellier & Bellot both make some great hunting ammo for 8x57 JS. They are 195 and 196 gr bullets at a MV of 2500-2600 fps. Thats a pretty respectable factory load for the old Mauser. Reloading is always the better option for any caliber though IMO.

I agree with steven, there are plenty of other companies besides remington that make hunting ammo and reloading is always one of your best options. there are millions, and I mean millions of 303s and 8mms sold as military surplus that have been used across the US as sporting rifles.
