Re loader needs input on Alliant green dot
I've been reloading .45LC, .44SP,and .44MAG for some time, with great success, using such powders as Titegroup, Trail boss, and Win 296. Now I can not find any. I did find a pound of green dot, but load data is not great for lead bullets. ANY help would greatly be appreciated. The cast bullets are: .44SP, 200 gr RNFP and 240gr SWC. .44MAG 240 gr SWC. And .45LC 250 gr RNFP. Thanks for any advice. Coop.

I would ask Alliant... here is a link to their tech support input from their website:

Thanks hgmeyer, already been done, but have not heard back. guess their pretty busy. I forgot to mention the .44SP is a USFA SA , the .44mag is a Ruger New model Black hawk, and the .45LC are Ruger New model Vaquero, and USFA SA. I would like to see around 900 fps from the .44SP, and .45LC.

Right now Ammoguide.com is running free days... They list Green Dot loads for the .45Colt and 250 grain lead
Good info at less than $20 a year |

Alliant has the same data and it is free; they show no other listings for your components

IMHO, Green Dot is very similar to Titegroup (except it's harder to measure, and it shoots cleaner with cast bullets.) That might be useful to you if you have TG load data already as long as you stay conservative with it.

The Alliant website is fairly non-intuitive to navigate. Here's what I found for Green Dot powder.
44 Mag load. .44 Special Load I think that Green Dot is a little fast for the big magnum cartridges. The velocities listed aren't very appealing. I get better velocity from Unique in .44 Special and my .44 Mag load uses 2400. |

Green Dot
44SP 180gr.......6.7gr.......925fps 240gr.......5.0gr.......785fps 44 Mag 240gr swc gas check........9.5gr 1180fps 45 Colt 250gr Lead.......6.8gr.........855fps All are listed maximums From 2004 Alliant powder data. Green Dot is a wonderful versatile handgun powder and highly under rated as such. Last edited by bluetopper; April 25, 2013 at 09:04 PM. |
