Help Identifying Rifle

Ive been researching this rifle for days and have come up null. I purchased it from a friend who also had no clue of its manufacturer. I would really appreciate any help I can get on this as I'd like to fire it someday, but without knowledge of the caliber I'm afraid that's not possible ;). Take a look at the photos in the link and see what you think. Thanks!

PS: There is an R stamped on the top of the barrel nearest the bolt (not in the pictures)

To me it looks like it may be a Spanish 1916 Mauser, but I am not exactly an expert.

If so it started like as 7mm Mauser, but some were converted to 7.52X51.

Agreed, it sure looks like a Spanish Mauser with the 1916 upgrades... make into short rifle, add cliploading thumb notch and oval gas vent hole.
If it were converted from 7x57 to 7.62, it OUGHT to be so marked but I would not bet on it.

I do wonder about you and your friend (and many other gunboard posters) buying stuff that you cannot identify.

I REALLY appreciate both of your inputs. This is definitely a Guardia Civil and appears to be unconverted but i'll have to confirm
