I see 80% receivers that are anodized and have a serial number. It is laser etched, but still it is a serial number and sold as an 80% receiver. How does that work?

You can put a serial number on a shovel. That doesn't make the shovel a gun....

It does not sound right to me. The guy selling the 80% G-3 flats said he had to use an FFL because the serial number was already on it. He won't make any money like that.

Ignorance, misunderstanding, and/or a product that wasn't actually an "80%" (or "firearm precursor" as the ATF says).

Maybe. I have bought an 80% G-3 flat with no FFL. His are the same BUT, are unfinished leftovers from German dies. Maybe they became guns when they were imported with a number on.
