6.5x55 Sporter

Greetings all. I have a question concerning a Swedish Mauser 6.5x55 I picked up a while ago. I adore it. All matching #'s. Unfortunately, the rifle had been "sporterized" before I acquired it

. Still, that fact doesn't diminish one bit the way I like shooting it. My question is, does the shortened barrel on my rifle affect its accuracy?

Not if it was evenly crowned after it was sawn off.

Like the previous poster said if its crowned correctly it should shoot fine.Its a shame its been sportered but it should make a great hunting or target rifle for you.

I have a shortened barrel M96 Swede sporter. While it is certainly not a one hole shooter at 100yards, it is accurate and capable of less than 1" groups when I do my job. I also had a sporter M94 Swede with about a 17" long barrel. Company that imported it years ago, had put about a 1 1/2" extension on the original barrel to make it legal to sell back then. Had a good bore in it and the rifle consistenly shot under a 1 1/2" 100 yard group. Did watch a guy at our range one day with a sporter shortened barrel Swede, shooting at 200 yard target. LOL, guy brought in target and I took a look at it. Egads, guy was shooting quarter size goups with his Swede.

I have one that originally came shortened, made in 1907. With a moderate load of 3031 and Sierra 120 SPT bullets, it will shoot 3-shot groups from a sand bag into 1 or 1.25" at 100 yards - good enough for deer for me
