Riverside Arms Pump 12 Gauge

I can't believe how hard it's been to info on this gun. I understand it is basically a Stevens gun and I understand a little about how these companies changed names and ownership but what I really want to track down is the age of this particular gun. It has 5186 B stamped behind the trigger guard and the barrel says Proof Tested 2 3/4" Chamber.

I have a Model 11 Remington and a Model 1887 Winchester lever action 10 gauge and I found info on both of these fairly easily. I believe the Remington is from 1928 and I know the Winchester is 1892. All of these guns have been handed down with the Winchester coming from my great great grandpa (market hunter) and the other two coming from my great grandpa (big time duck hunter).

Any help tracking down the year of the Riverside Arms gun would be greatly appreciated.

You probably already have this information, however, this is what I have

RIVERSIDE SHOTGUN

Trade Name used by J steven arms Co form 1915-1940
It is the same as their model 213 and 315. To find out the specific date is not likley. You could check with Savage but I doubt they will have the specifics either.

Thanks Harley for the info.. It looks to me that the Stevens Model 215 and 315 were double barrels and I have a pump 12 gauge. Have not seen a model number yet for this gun.

That first pic is exactly what I have. According to the the second pic it says that this gun was made from 1915 to 1930. I'm guessing that this may be as close as I get to nailing down the year it was produced but I'm happy to narrow it down.

I used this gun up until just a few years ago when I quit using it just because I figured if something failed on it I may have a hard time getting it fixed.

If you could send the Dis/Assemb do that would be interesting to check out.

Some corrections are necessary in the above replies.

The Riverside trade name was used by Stevens on their economy lines from 1915 to 1929 when it was replaced by the Springfield brand

The Riverside Model 315 is the economy version of the Stevens Model 330. The Riverside Model 315 became the Springfield Model 315 in 1929 and in 1931was cheapened and renamed the Springfield Model 311 (not to be confused with the much later Stevens Model 311).

The Riverside Model 315, Springfield Model 315, Springfield Model 311 and Stevens Model 330 all used the G.S. Lewis patented action with coil spring driven strikers rather than internal hammers. These guns remained in the line until 1936 when the Stevens Model 330 became the Model 530 and the Springfield Model 311 became the Model 515 with the adoption of the 5000/5100 internal hammer action, which later became the Stevens Model 311.

The Lewis patented coil spring driven striker action was continued until WWII on private label guns.

The Stevens (Riverside) Model 520 slide action gun was manufactured between 1912 and 1932 (approximately 191,000 made) when it was replaced with the Model 620.

There are existing records to give a date of manufacture for Stevens firearms.

Correct.

The reason why is that in 1922, when Stevens Arms & Tool Co (then one of, if not THE, largest mfgr's of firearms in the USA) was subpoenea'd by the US Congress to provide their firearms production records for Congress' investigation of War Crimes during WWI, Steven's management told Congress they could not comply because all records were lost in a sudden/recent office fire. (sic) .
