which is the more iconic/desirable Smith

I want one Smith center fire semi auto for the collection (it involves OCD )
I have a Kentucky State Police 1076 that's been reliable and shoots OK, but have been thinking about selling it off and getting a 39-2.
Neither would be for carry or SD, prolly wouldn't even shoot either very much, just filling a slot in the collection.
I have other 9mms and 10mms that I shoot more. If I do get a 39-2 I'll prolly hunt down a nickel one to go with the nickel 19,29,34 that I have going on.

The 15 has a round cylinder thingy and I think he wants one with a slidey thingy.

Why include an insult in your poll options? Seems very unnecessary to me.

I like option three being given as an option. Scuba this is funny because you will soon see almost all poll questions will be answered with a choice or three that is not on the list. "Just get a Glock" is a very popular answer to any question regarding the choice of a pistol. I think mavracer was just responding in advance to those replies.

I found the lemming comment humorous, and while "get a Glock" is a very common reply, its not popular in my circles.

There are lots of possible choices the model 39 is a recognized classic. The model 59 is a double stack 39, essentially.

The ASP conversions, and the various models that mimic them are neat, too.

Then there's the one made for .38 wadcutters, model 52?? was it?

My son has one of the S&W 1911 guns, (I had it for a couple years while he was overseas) and its beautifully made, and very accurate.

Not knowing exactly what niche the OP wants to fill, I'd go with the m39 variant.

I found the glock option fitting. It's been my experience glockers just look at you like you're crazy if you talk about buying other brands for any use.

Let's face it 8/10 folks are glocks only types, but so far haven't voted like I did. To those don't be afraid...

Well, then, he needs to move to another sandbox that has thingies that suit him.

The poll doesn't have my choice. I wanted but couldn't afford at the time a 3913LS.

So I bought Glocks later. So there.

The 1076 doesn't appeal to me. Now a Glock 40 maybe.

I voted the last option just because.

No debate for me: the superb Model 52 has no equal. Unless it would be the Model 945. Or maybe the Model 952... A pity you have to limit yourself to one pistol.

To answer the question; 39. The 52 is a better choice though.

Seriously, I get a Glock over either one of those guns and I don't consider myself a lemming.

It was meant for humor and as a preemptive strike against the inevitable reply that doesn't answer the question.

No niche to fill other than "Smith center fire" for the collection.

I've had a 52 wonderful shooter but a PITA to load for and get to run, I have no desire for another.

Basically the question is keep the 1076 or peddle it and find a nice nickel 39.

Keep the 1076, it will ALWAYS go up in value. Also mid-level rare.
The FBI just had to destroy their entire stock they had left.
If your OCD complains, it means you've failed to realize
that 10mm is in a completely different class of centerfire.

The 39-2 is a nice pistol, but there are scads more around...
it's actually substandard when compared to later S&W 3rd Gens.
And...it's just a 9mm. The smaller, weaker sister of the .38 Special.

On the other hand, if you lived close to me, I'd be trying to
get that 1076 from ya and talk you into the 9mm

Keep the 1076... 10mm S&Ws have been going up in pricing for years. Magazines for them have been doing the same.

I think that's one of the biggest problems I have with making the move, if I miss the 1076 it'll be tough to find another.

He's in the right sandbox, for the question he asked. Asking a question about S&W semi autos, in the semi auto pistol forum is the right place. Answering with a revolver, or a different brand of pistol simply isn't helpful.

Skip a few lattes, bag lunch it, or what ever to put some money away to buy the 39 outright.

I'd say the 39-2 is more iconic however the 1076 is more desirable.

I'm not positive on pricing but I thought a 39-2's are around $500 vs $1,000 for the 1076. I'd just get a 39-2 and see if you like it more than the 1076 and sell whichever you like the least. If I had a 1076 there's no way I'd consider dropping it for a 39-2.

I'm an enabler. Keep the 10 and buy a 39 of some variant. After all you do say it is for a collection. A real collection would have one of each specimen.

Wish it was that easy but the collection stands at the SWMBO limit.

I didn't vote. Personally I would be more drawn to a 1006 or 4006 due to their place in the history of the 10mm and development of the 40 S&W.
