Model 1847 Colt ddbl. 12ga. shotgun
Posted on a feedstore bullentin board>>>Antique Colt ddbl. 12ga. shotgun, $1,000 mint condition."
I called and the man and he said it's been in the family for years. I explained what "mint condition" is ( Never fired, like new "store bought" condition) and he thought mint condition was "still functional for the age of the weapon"..LOL......The only sure thing he could say is it's a double-barrel with side hammers and the serial numbers (20121) and that "Colt" where stamped clearly on the reciever. He was'nt sure if it was a 12 or 10 ga. as he did'nt see this info stamped on the gun. He said he would e-mail pictures that would show it's actual condition and any other markings the gun had. As soon as i recieve the pics i'll post them and get everyones opinions as i have with other items........Regards.......Tom |

Looks like 1885 from the linked list. It would have to be real nice for me to give that much for it. But that's just me. Pics are always fun to look at. John |

Looks okay for an old gun just from looking at those pics, but the Blue Book says "Strong, original case colors and vivid damascus barrel patterning will make the difference when determining values."
From the little I can see that might be a 30% condition $1000 gun. Then again, it might not, hard to tell. "Many of these guns were ordered with special features - these original guns command premiums." I have no idea what they might be. 2-year-old Blue Book prices: 100% = $3750, 10% = $725. |

Don't know if the guy/gal is deliberately trying to mislead you or not, but the Colt hammered double is a m1878. The hammerless double is a m1883. Don't think there were hammered doubles in 1847.
