Which Leupold scope for an AR

I've just gotten a BCM 16" rifle. I'm debating two optic options. I have on hand a VX III 3.5-10x50 in an A.R.M.S. mount. The LGS has an MK AR 1.5-4x20 with what they are calling "a tactical mount $100 value" included on sale for $350. I don't expect to be shooting beyond 200 yards/meters or so and usually half or less than that. So, do I want to use the big scope I already have or go with the probably much lighter MK AR.

lbd,

I have a number of Luepold VX-3 2-8 power scopes on my hunting rifles and slug shotguns. They are perfect for short to medium hunting distances.

On my AR's I like close to 1power on the low end or a Red Dot sight. It's faster for short ranges and will get you out to 200 yards OK. Thus, for me, your 3.5-10 power scope would be too much scope. I'd go with one of the lower power scopes- 1 or 1.5 power on the low end and either a 4 power or 5-6 power if your budget will allow. The $350 price including mount sounds reasonable. Good luck.

best wishes- oldandslow

It depends on what you're going to be doing.
For fast paced daylight use, the smaller scope.
For hunting at dawn or before. or dusk or after, the bigger scope.

It's just for fun and to compete with myself personally from one trip to the range to another.

Buy the lower powered scope and a couple of sets of QD mounts and you can switch them out depending on how far you want to shoot at any given time.

For what you stated in the OP, the lower power is all you need, IF you want it as a self defense weapon also
