Test Gun: Colt 1911 Government, Defender. Barrel length: 5 and 3 inches. Ammunition: Winchester .45 ACP 185gr Silvertip JHP . Test media: 10% Clear Ballistics Gel. Distance: 10 feet. Not a fan of the lighter .45ACP loads, but nothing to complain about on this test for the 185gr Silvertip.

Anecdote alert:

An aluminum Silvertip could be seen to have a cannelure with a little bit of wax lube. A shooter here got some with the lube omitted and found that naked aluminum fouls badly. Winchester replaced the ammo but didn't tell him how to clean out aluminum fouling. |
