Safe Location Suggestions

I am looking into buying a "real" safe (as real as I can justify spending). However I don't have many options on where to put it and need opinions.

Here are my options:

- Garage in the middle of a wall. Humidity, temperature changes, the fact my wife never remembers to close the garage door, and not being able to wedge it in a corner are all concerns.

- Upstairs in the corner of our bedroom. It would be nice that I can shove the side opposite of the hinges into a corner. Concerns include getting it up the stairs and if the floor collapses in a fire. I'm wondering if that last concern matters. By the time the fire is bad enough to make the floor collapse, the safe is probably already toast. Anyone with home fire experience who knows? I also need to make sure the floor can support 1000lbs.

Any recommendations?

i would not consider the garage as a 'safe' place. i would consider a smaller safe in the 5-600 lb range. it will go up the stairs and be out of harms way. i have an older Browning Pro Steel in the 500 lb range that holds about 18 or so long guns and i would estimate 12-15 hanguns. Buy what 'you' need not what you think you need. Hope that helps.

The safe I am considering is only 60x30x24" (exterior). It weighs 700lbs plus the weight of the contents. I really don't think I can go any smaller than that. When spending this much, I sure don't want to run out of room in a year.

2 years ago i had two safes full to the brim. a larger Browning safe i bought new and the one i had mentioned earlier. well i sold off a bunch of guns and the larger safe and i find that the safe i have now suits my purpose. the moral of the story is if you have a stable enough income and a stable floor to place it you can never own too large a safe or too many guns!

I'd avoid putting it in the garage for the reasons you had mentioned. Indoors & out of sight, preferably in the bedroom closet if you have the space. Being in a closet and bolted down would make it very difficult to try to break into because of the limited space, and it would be close to you in case of an emergency.
