Haha I love the threads with open-ended opinion questions...

I'm guessing you'll get quite a few responses for Beretta, slightly less for Remington, and the occasional vote for Benelli. Personally I'd say Benelli but it's just because they fit me like a glove.

If you never have to buy parts: Benelli M1. Awesome reliability, no need to ever clean anything other than the barrel.

If you have to be practical: Remington 1100/11-87

I'm with BigJim, and others, on this: Give us some more parameters. For all we can tell, you want to know what's the best gun to survive being tossed into the bay after missing an easy shot.

If you prefer gas operated, Beretta. If you prefer inertia operated, Benelli.

Both are equally good with different strong and weak points. I prefer Benelli simply because its strong points are more important to me

Lots of fine auto loading shotguns out there. For lots of different prices. In my zone I am extremely fond of the Remington 1100.

Best. Yes....what about parameters? They've been asked for a couple of times and have not been forthcoming.
Most people who ask "best" questions seem to have a limited understanding of what is actually involved in an accurate answer. Asking "what is the best semi-auto that you have ever used?" is one thing. Asking "who makes the best semiauto shotgun ? " is quite another. An accurate answer would require the respondee to have used ALL semi-autos currently produced in order to know which one or which manufacturer is best. Even then parameters would be needed.

Ok I will narrow this down even though this isn't my origional post but I am interested also. I will be using it in the swamp for ducks and geese. I also want to be able to use it in the dove field. What are your thoughts? I have been looking at the Benellie Super Black Eagle II and the Reminton 11-87 but I am open to other options. Plan to stop at Cabela's this weekend to see what fits best.

Someone said if you want to be practical buy a Remington 1100. I agree but I'd say 11-87 but it's the same difference. There is also Beretta and Benelli. Shoot most of them prior to buying. One will fit/fell better than the others. On a personal note I had Benelli about 13 years ago. Did not like the recoil with heavy loads compared to an 11-87.

Wondering how the Benelli M-2 which is a tactical shotgun would be good for hunting? Why would I need the extended tube? Just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

Maybe I missed they but seems that the 1100 are mostly target guns or field guns with nice finishes. I am looking for something that is camo'd so the ducks and geese don't see it.

Aftermarket camouflage synthetic stock take about 10 minutes to swap out...
