Second Match

Well i just completed my second IDPA match with 4 handgun stages and a 2 stage shotgun sidematch. Note to 1911 fans... MORE LUBE!!

Could not figure it out.. had shot it and made it work flawless at the range.. and first thing saturday morning JAM... a quick trip to the saftey area for some CLP solved the problem and by the last stage NO jams and three magazines through the gun in high winds that blew sand and grit into everything. Still need to work on moving faster through the courses but I think my handling is pretty good. I also think I impressed some of my fellow shooters in the side matches (thanks for the compliment Jeff) I was suprised to see quite a few misses on steels from shooters with some very expensive and "tactical" shotguns SHOOT some clays and pattern your guns kids

. Also got to watch as Tom borrowed my shotgun to introduce 2 new shotgunners to the sport. We had a lot of fun.

Looking forward to seeing the match results (great turnout with 3 squads of shooters). Great range facilites and the blind stage was really really cool. Didn't miss SEEING any bad guys but I did manage to MISS SHOOTING at the long range/hidden guy leaning out from the fence.

Thinking of signing up to be a for match safety officer class (damn I'm hooked)

Yep, it was a good match. One could easily see who has steel and shotgun experience (as well as tactical pistol experience).

The distressed look on Rob's face when his pistol first jammed was like he caught his best friend with his girl

- a bit of lube, and it all ended in smiles

It could have been worse. It could have jammed in a real gunfight. My club just got a four door sedan to use in IDPA stages. Can't wait to shoot a stage from a Park Avenue.

I've been following your posts Dr. Rob. I just recently joined a club that holds competition shooting and went again Monday night for the second time.

It is so much fun, but I'm like you...I'm more worried about following range rules than I am shooting! That can make for a nervous evening! Last night was not quite as nerve racking.

Sorry I missed the match, my #2 priority- work- got in the way.
Dr. Rob, I'm glad you liked the facility. 10 years ago there was one berm, half of another one, and about 40 members. The Clear Creek board has supported about every proposal ever put forth for improvements and upgrades. If you run into Lou Kingsley or Ray Eaves, thank them. They're the two longest surviving board members, their attitude is "the more people out here shooting, the better it is for all of us, and the safer our range is". Membership is still open.

hmmmm how exactly does that sceanrio go...

"you and your crew are returning from the Bada-Bing when you see some of Junior's crew cut the road off in front of you and the car is riddled with bullets.. you roll out and...."

or is it more like..

"you and your partner are chasing two perpetrators into an ally.. just as you cross the street a Park avenue squeals to a halt blocking the ally, you slide across the hood drawing your weapon..."

OK so I watched to much starsky and hutch and have a weakness for the Sopranos. Sue me.

Actually the use of "real" objects, doors, cars, barrels, bricks, etc adds greatly to the realism of the courses and makes them a lot more fun.

During a rifle side match a few months back, one of the IDPA'ers put a .223 through the top of a car door while I was Safety Officer. Some rifles (ARs especially) have the sights far above the barrel - another good reason not to crowd cover. I still rib him about it

Motorep - I had no idea the range had been so improved, I'll certainly thank Ray next I see him.
