So Sell me a Subscription

Who's in charge of what goes in S.W.A.T magazine?

The reason I ask is because I usually only buy a Gun Rag if I'm looking for companies to order products or accessories from. I subscribe to America Rifleman and thats it. I read about 10%-40% and then just look at the pretty pictures.

I never see articles on Surplus ammo like Hirtenburger/Chilean/South African/ and all the various lots that are good and what to watch out for. I never hear a bad thing about Wolf ammo from a Gun Magazine but I see about a 10% malfuntion rate in Handguns and Rifles ALL THE TIME. The topic of Surplus ammo and Factory Ammo never really goes anywhere.

Every time I see a gun test it lists 3 types of ammo used in 1 gun of a certain design. I want to see QC bashing on 20 types of ammo and Surplus ammo in 10 Bushmaster AR's or 10 Ruger Mini 14's.
And how to fix crappy USA Magazines for Mini 14's? I've never seen topics like this discussed before.

SodaPop-

I make the decision on what goes into each issue. If the articles meet with our reader’s approval I give credit to the authors. If met with disapproval, the fault is mine.

You bring up a good point in terms of surplus ammunition, and I can not remember running an article strictly on the performance of surplus ammunition. In honesty, I’m not sure how relevant an article like that would be as time and expense would not allow us to test everything available. If we get a good lot, we would report on it and readers would assume it’s all good stuff. The reverse would apply if we got a few bad lots.

I would love to be able to test ammo in 10 different firearms of the same make and type, but to date I have not been the winner in a large multi-state lottery. And, even if I had the money to buy 10 rifles, published results may not be indicative of performance in someone else’s rifle due to variables such as a rough chamber/bore, weak extractor spring, fouled gas system, etc.

In short, we do the best we can with what we have to work with.

I will, however, take a serious look at running some "fix-it" type article on magazines and other ancillary gear in the future.

Thanks for the Reply

I've learned just about any gun magazine can be fixed if you have a pair of Needle Nose Plyers and know how to trouble shoot. With the number of Poor Quality Hi Cap Mags out there I think people would want to buy a Magazine that helped solve a major headache in the Gun industry.

If I saw the topic "HOW TO SALVAGE ALL YOUR JUNK HI-CAP MAGS" I'd pull that off the shelf and bring it home.

Um, I don't think SWAT needs to be fixed, and even if it did, I'm not sure needle nosed pliers are the right tool.

(sigh) See what happens when you don't call a magazine a "clip"?

Came out to the office the other day and forgot my latest copy of Western Horseman on the kitchen table and called for my daughter to bring me my "magazine." She came out with mags for a 1911, Glock 26 and an AR saying, "I didn't know which one you wanted."

Ok well Prepare to have this Reader's Participation/Questions on what he likes and dislikes

I hope I get My Issue of S.W.A.T sooner than 4-6 weeks. One Year's Subscription PAID FOR

Hopefully I can get it before our PA TFL shoot next month. I don't know if any of the guys out there have read SWAT yet. Do you have a section in S.W.A.T Magazine where a TFL Member can pose with a famous Person, and get their picture taken, and then have it in S.W.A.T? Kinda like how MAD Magazine does?

Finaly found one.

Just found my first issue of SWAT, I have to admit I have never even picked one up before hearing about it on TFL. I am very impressed with it and passed it on to the wife to read the article on Ted Nugent.(Uncle Ted is a legand in the Pearson household.) Thank you for such a good read.

So your saying an author never pens a bad article but a publisher does publish bad articles . Thats a good thing to know, from an author's stand point that is.
