Daniel Defense poor quality?
I just got my chrome Daniel Defense bolt carrier group assembly and could not believe how rough the machining was, I'm talking chatter marks on the foreward assist grooves from milling too fast and rough machine marks around the whole exterior of the carrier. Even the chrome was dull and scratched inside the carrier and out. The bolt however is perfect and shows fine craftsmanship. I don't know weather to return it and try another brand or keep it as it will probably function fine. I am particularly nervous about sending it back because of how back ordered bcg's are right now. I compared it to a base dpms bcg and the dpms was hands down better machining and finish. Does Daniel Defense just sell crap at a premium price or is this a fluke part that somehow got past every employee including the chump that saw it and went ahead and chromed it and then the guy that saw the still goobered up part and packaged it anyhow?
I bought this bcg from Brownells and it is part #dd9300c, I gave the part a poor review and they never posted my review. If they don't post negative reviews than maby that's why there was only one review on this item... Any how, have any of you experienced this and how foolish would it be to keep the bcg to prevent getting on a backorder list.

I'd absolutely return it to Daniel Defense (not to where you bought it) and I bet you'll get the next one that comes off their assembly line. DD is a great company to deal with and they stand by their product but every company can put out a lemon from time to time...

If they could get me a part that was up to par I would be verry happy. I would hope that they have better potential than this. I am nearing the end of a build and every part that I have purchased was based on research and reviews and I have heard great things about DD, which is why I got this part, I also thought it'd match up better to my DD lightweight 14.5 middy.
But as I stated my greatest fear is that their going to put me back untill the end of the end of the year. Midway did this to me with a DD upper receiver I ordered in july that they accidentally didn't send out with the rest of my order and by the time they got it straightened out they were backordered into next year. I am not in a huge hurry but I've been at this build since June and am ready to have it finished.

I'd rather deal with DD directly too but I wasn't sure they'd give me the time of day, has anyone here dealt with their cs before?

I'd simply give DD a call. I'm sure they'll make it right.

I've dealt with DD customer service.
It was for a DD LPK where the fire control group didn't want to play nice (it was at the edge of the spec- would work if I mixed and matched the parts with others, but not together). They had me send them the parts, they sent me a new fire control group. No problems getting it swapped. |

I have dealt with them once before.
I had a DD 1.5 rear sight that had the aperture installed backwards. They sent me a UPS tag and had it back in about a week. I had to email them several times to get it though. They said the girl that normally did it was out, they actually sent me 2 UPS tags. I would let DD take care of it, they should stand behind their work.

I would be all over that " like a duck on a junebug". Seriously though DD is one of the best AR manufacturers, they will make it right. They are still a good company that cares about their customers. I hope that doesn't change.

I understand your frustrations, but what I don't understand is why you haven't called Brownells or DD and see for yourself what they have to say about your problem..............why not just give them a call and ask how quick they could send you a replacement.....

Like everyone else stated, call Brownells or DD and give them a chance to make it right. It would be pretty foolish to keep it, because as of right now it's available at Brownells. |

Is the carrier full length M16 like the normal phosphated DD carrier? I've heard DD uses shorter AR-15 style chrome carriers. Maybe there's a difference in machining?
My phosphated DD BCG is finished very smoothly, even better than my two BCMs. |

I emailed DD on Friday and haven't heard back yet. I will call them on Monday and see if I can get ahold of then. If not I will contact brownells.
Yes quentin it's the lighter ar-15 bcg, their chrome bcgs are civy and the phosphate are milspec. Normally I would get the milspec bcg but this build is getting an adjustable gas block so I wanted a slightly lighter bcg.

I hope they work it out for you. Hopefully you can keep the bolt since it's pristine and just get the carrier replaced. DD might do just that but I bet Brownells would require that you swap out the entire unit.
This is a tough spot and makes your decision hard since DD BCGs aren't the easiest thing to find these days. I haven't seen a phosphated DD BCG for sale in a long time, just occasionally the chrome version. |
