.44 Magnum 300gr loads---

I have a new box of .44 Magnum Sierra 300gr JSP bullets.
Anybody came up with some good hunting loads for the .44 Mag. 300gr ?
Ruger Super Blackhawk 4 5/8 inch bbl.

Thanks

.44 load

I use 18.0 grs of 2400 in loads for my 5 1/2" SBH. One grain under max.

I run 19 grains of H110 under a Hornady 300gr XTP bullet (I imagine that the load would work fine with your bullets, but always work up!) with a Magtech Primer (have tried it with CCI Magnum primers, gained about 10 fps, that's about it)... I believe 20 is the max, and could go hotter in my Redhawk, but it seems to work fine as it is.

Prince55, I have done some extensive workups with the SIE 300gr. JSP. Originally with my 5.25" Vaquero and more recently (as of winter, 2007) for my 7.5" SBH.

Using initial data from Lyman's 48th, I worked up the following:

Powder..........Min.....Max
2400..............15.7.....17.5
H110..............19.6.....20.5
H4227............18.7.....20.8
IMR4227.......18.5.....21.0

Note: Cases were Starline trimmed to 1.275"; Primers were WLP; COL was 1.740"; 12 cartridges of each .2gr increment were loaded; all shots were made at 100yds into a standard 25yd pistol target.

For my guns, I found that IMR4227 at max load was the most accurate load for my SBH, whereas the H4227 at 20.5gr was what my Vaquero liked.

As always, workup your loads, as your particular gun may like a little difference than mine.
