I've been please with Rainer's FMJ bullets in the 9mm for awhile. I was thinking of tring some of there hollow points. Being a hard cast, will these bullets expand enough to do any thing on say small game, or even blow up a pop can?

Rainiers are plated.

115's are the 'Hex' design and will definitely expand if you drive them.

I've used literally thousands of them and like them quite a bit.

I've used the Rainier 124g HEX-HP in commercial civilian defense ammo; so did others.

You want 'explosive'? Highly recommend Remington's conventional 115g JHP.

I guess it must just be me, but I have never seen one expand. I load them in .357, 50AE and 40 SW. The 40 load is a real light one for the wife, so I wouldn't expect it to do much. The 357 and 50 loads are fired through my Desert Eagles so they are loaded fairly hot. I can go downrange to the backstop and dig out the bullets and they are still solid with no expansion. Maybe the wooden backstop is sealing them up? I have shot other brands and some expand, some don't.

You don't need no expansion on small game with a 9mm. Fair sized meplat or a swc design will do the trick nicely.

From Rainier's website, the FAQ page:

Q5. Why are there no cannelures on any of your bullets?
A. Because our bullets are so soft a cannelure groove is not needed to achieve a positive, tight grip of the bullet in the case mouth.

They aren't hard cast.

Yeah, they're about as far from hard cast as you can get.
I don't know how they form their slugs, but since the copper prevents any leading, they can get away with being about as dead soft as they can be.
