Colt Anaconda - Educate Me Please...

Educate me a little more on these wheel guns...

I have a line on one in what appears to be excellent condition (at least from the pics) for $1,050. This seems like a good deal but don't know much about the Anaconda's.

What are the strong points?
What are the weak points?

Anything in particular to look for when inspecting if I decide to purchase?

Thanks for the help

PS

It's a Colt.
It ain't made anymore. It's good looking, strong, quality fit and finish.
It's built on the same basic modern lockwork as the King Cobra.
And it's expensive.
If you want something different from all the Ruger and S&W's out there then go for it.
Not aware of any weak points but I would give it the same pre inspection that I've give any other revolver before buying it.

So, in your experience, is $1,050 a good asking price?

Well, there is one at a local gun shop as we speak with a $699 price tag. It has an 8" barrel and no box or papers but does appear to be in really nice shape.

A 6" or 4" barrel would likely fetch more money, or one chambered in 45 Colt.
That said, unless it's unfired and "like new in box" I would say $800 to $900 would be tops, IMO. Although I have been known to pay a little too much for something I really want. Try offering a lower price, all they can say is no.

.44 Mag or .45 Colt ? 4" 5" 6" 8" ", 6" most common and in .44 Mag,5" rarest of all.Very good revolvers you can shoot whatever you want as strong as Ruger Redhawk, heavy loads will accelerate wear on any gun.The price is in the ball park, some go for more and some go for less.Everybody should at least have one exceptional revolver, most Colts fill that requirement quite nicely.

I wouldn't let my Anaconda go for anything less than $1000..
If it's in mint condition, expect to pay upwards of $800 [look on gunsamerica or gunbroker.com for current prices]

Weak points:

I don't like the grip angle
harsh recoil with hot loads
no longer in production [ceased in 1999 or 2000]

Strong points:

low production numbers [i'm not sure if this is a good thing..]
excellent overall accuracy
good trigger pull using single and double-action
cylinder stages nicely [admittedly not as good as a S&W M29]

Check for top-strap flame cutting, cylinder play, and cylinder gap size. Any cylinder play will indicate a hard life of full-power magnum loads.

What a sweet revolver!

I got mine around the start of this year for $800.00 I'd say its condition is anywhere from 90-95%

see most going in the 800-1000+ range. i have the 8" factory ported and drilled and tapped for scope. i think the porting makes a difference with the 44 mag rounds. but don't shoot it in low light!

Love the Dancin Pony!

Fine revolver, like said before, great fit and finish excellent trigger on the 4" .44 I have.
Very accurate as well, I killed a decent buck at around 70 yards with mine.
