Bushing, no bushing?

Pardon my ignorance...but...

I have 1911's with bushings. Commander and full-size. I also have a Witness in 10mm that has no bushing. Is it feasable to have a bushing installed in the Witness? Will it affect reliability and accuracy? Looking at all my handguns the 1911's are the only ones with bushings. Is this a '1911 only' design?

The 1911 is the most common gun with a barrel bushing but there are others. First version Colt 1903 .32, S&W M39 and others similar, Star, Llama, Radom, Tokarev. One series of BHP prototypes. Probably others but that is enough to show the design is not uncommon or limited to 1911.

Why do you want a bushing in your EAA? It could be done but you might not want to pay for it. One off custom machining and gunsmithing projects are usually expensive.

Just FWIW, the BHP has a bushing, it is just not a removable one.

The main reason for the bushing on the 1911 and BHP is to allow machining of the breech face; any other advantages are a side benefit.
