I was in East Texas over the past weekend and wandered into a store selling guns and such. I was looking through the case and saw what I thought at first was an old 3 screw ruger 22. I read the tag and it said it was a peacemaker. Sure enough the gun says it is a colt peace maker along the barrel. Blued and I guess it was a 7 inch barrel. I was just curious what it was really worth. I see the old colt single actions and the new for that matter going for a grand to 1500. Was I nuts not to pick it up for 250? or is this one of the mass produced worthless ones?

Hi, Andrewh,
The term "Peacemaker" was used in Colt advertising, but no early guns were marked that way. The only gun actually marked "Peacemaker" is a version of the .22 Frontier Scout, and was made from about 1970-1977. Some were made with a 7 1/2 barrel and called (or marked) "Buntline". (Ned Buntline was a writer who gave long barrel Colt revolvers to famous lawmen back in the 1870s.) Others were marked just "Peacemaker". Assuming yours is one of those .22s, and is in 90% plus condition, you did all right, but you did not discover a rare collectors item. That gun is a nice little "plinking" pistol. Some consider it to have a nicer overall appearance than the Ruger Single Six, which was its main competitor. Jim |

Thanks Jim. I didn't pick it up though. I really wanted to, but I couldn't justify another 22 plinker to the wife. I was curious if I had passed up a collectors item. Thanks again.

I have one and it's a fun shooter if it makes any difference. How about buying for the wife as a wedding annivesary? Or should the word be adversary? Sorry Honey, how was I suppose to know you wanted a vacation trip to the Bahamas?

She wants a custom 45? Good for you Andrew! Thankfully I'm not in marriage counseling as you've proven that my advice sucks.
