460 Contender

Looking to put together a Contender rifle in 460 S&W. Where can I get a barrel? Looking for 24 or 26 inch. I read about Katahdin barrels but can't find anything about them. Can't find a website or phone number. They the best or are there better options?

Any suggestions?

SSK might be able to make a barrel for you

Can you do a Contender in .460 S&W?

Actually I'm pretty sure you can't do a .460 S&W since it runs at 65K PSI. Contender frames can't handle anything like that. You'll have to step up to an Encore if you want a .460 S&W.

I would look at MGM for an Encore barrel.

Recoil

I am not particularly recoil sensitive. I wanted a .500 S&W barrel for my Encore frame. I wanted to play with the large 600-700 grain dinosaur thumper bullets…..just to see. So I got the barrel, a 15 inch pistol barrel, loaded the cartridges, went to the range.
Remember when I wrote a moment ago that I am not particularly recoil sensitive? Well…..those loadings hurt from the first shot……no foreplay at all….just ouch from round one.
Be warned. The .460 is in the same territory.
