3913 Lady Smith

A LGS has a 3913 LS for sale.

Great condition.

Also, what do people think about the 3913 in general?

Anyone have a 3913?

I'm not a lady, but I like the way this gun looks.

I came across my 3913 LNIB several years ago. It has been an excellent little pistol, reliable with any of the many types of 9MM ammo I've used.
I like the way the LS/NL looks too, and would have preferred the LS/NL type myself. In fact, there was an LS or NL type right next to the regular 3913 in the case. Same price, but the LS or NL, can't remember exactly which, was obviously rode hard and well worn. I bought my regular 3913 instead just due to LNIB condition. Never regretted the purchase.

Mine is a great gun, one of several pistols S&W should have never discontinued. It feels really good in my hand . Paid $325 for mine in mint condition about 9 years ago. Mine came with Hogue rubber grips, which I like. Be aware that takedown and reassembly can be tricky so a manual is handy.

Good gun nice DA/SA trigger. Heavy by todays standards for its capacity but I love mine. If it is priced reasonably get it.

I always wondered why it was called a Ladysmith because it is a perfect carry size whether you're a male or female. Very reliable and feels great in the hand. Go for it if its in good shape.

The 3953 (Double Action Only version of the 3913) is probably my all time favorite carry gun. It is just the right size, lets me get a three finger grip, isn't too heavy or too light. And, it is absolutely reliable.

I have an old mousie looking 3914 LS (blue slide) and even in sad outer shape it shoots very well and totally reliable.

Just FWIW, the name "Ladysmith" was taken from the old .22 revolver which was a very small gun chambered in .22 Long. It was a DA revolver but had a cylinder the same size and capacity (7) as the old Model 1 tip-up. The name was taken from the idea of a "ladies" gun plus. at the time it was developed, the papers were full of news of the siege of a town called Ladysmith in South Africa during the Boer war; that name in turn came from Lady Smith, to honor the wife of a British official.

Why .22 Long and not .22 LR? Because the .22 LR at that time was used in single shot rifles and had no crimp, so in a revolver the bullets jumped forward and jammed the cylinder.

The same basic pistol was also produced as the 3913NL without the "LadySmith" script and the cute purple gun rug, presumably for men whose masculinity was threatened by these items.

The "NL" suffix is widely said to stand for "Not LadySmith," but AFAIK this has never been formally confirmed by the factory. Both pistols are widely sought after and command a premium over the standard M3913, particularly the NL due to its rarity.

i have had mine for some time now and got it for a very good price in like new condition in the box with several extra magizines, i like the thin profile and single stack(no fan of double stack in my carry auto,s). i could have doubled my money several times if i wanted to part with it. eastbank. PS i,m glad you got it and i know you will too.

I own the value line version of the 3913, the 908S. I find it to be a superb ccw. It shoots like a full sized pistol but carries easily IWB. It has become my cold weather carry pistol of choice. If I ran across a reasonably priced 3913 Lady Smith I wouldn't hesitate in picking it up.

Congrats on picking up an excellent carry gun. I have a 3953 and my 3913NL (on my hip as I type this) and it is a great carry gun, feeds everything I have ever feed it. I love a single stack 9mm and it is a good balance of weight for carry. To bad S&W got stopped them years ago.

I used to carry a 3913 Lady Smith. I only stopped because the safety worked backward -- up for fire and down for safe. I really like the pistol, though.

I carried one for about a year around 1994. Someone had done an action job on it before I got it. The trigger in both DA and SA was very nice. I wish I had not traded it off

Very good guns. I prefer my SIG 239. It's a bit more accurate. But the 3913 is a classic as far as I am concerned.
