9mm worth reloading?
i am trying to figure out if it is worth me reloading for my new xd. i can get get 50 9mm rounds for $5 a box. i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get cheap 115gr or so 9mm heads in bulk so i can fit that into my equation to see how much it is to make 1000rounds vs buy.
100 Primers 1.75*10= 17.50 Powder Approximately 17/pound Bullets ? Cases $0 (i have a bunch) |

You're better off posting this on reloading section, but since you're here my answer is "probably not".
Unless you're cranking ammo out on a Super 1050 to the tune of 1200 rounds/hour, I wouldn't bother loading for 9mm. I buy it locally for under 4 bucks. So it's kinda pointless. I do load for 45. |

Not For The Money
Maybe not for the money, but with my 9mm the performance is better. It shoots better with reloads then it ever has with factory ammo.

How much is your time worth? How much would you save? That is the way I look at it. As long as WWB stays around $11 for 100, I am not spending the money on dies.

With the price of 9mm ammo, it would be difficult to see the savings especially when you factor in your time.
However, if you already reload it couldn't hurt to purchase a set of dies and stockpile components for a rainy day.

For accuracy and consistancy in competition... Sure.
For cost savings? Umm.... Probably not. Anyone within driving distance of a half decent gun shop or a WalMart will spend less money on ammo by purchasing it factory loaded.

Reloaders figure their time as $0. That is not why we reload. I have loaded ten of thousands 9mm rounds. Cost is as follows with lead bullets.
Primer .013 Bullet .017 Powder .004 That's $34 per 1,000.

Uh..no
There no way I'd reload for my 9mm. Like it was said before, too cheap to buy and my time is worth more than the .006732 cents I'd save per round by reloading.

Bullets approximately 30-50$, lead vs. jacketed Primers 15 $ or so. Powder is minimum of 10-15$ So, my totals are closer to ---> 55$ for lead, 75 for jacketed. I buy Blazer 9mm for 83$/1000 all day the at local sporting goods store. Thats with tax. Very accurate and consistant (9 fps SD) . No way in heck am I wasting my time to reload for 8 bucks worth of difference. My time is more precious than that, but then again we're all different people. If reloading 9mm is what you want to do, and I do know ONE other guy (out of over 100 guys he's the only one reloading 9mm) in my IPSC club that reloads 9mm, then more power to you. now, if you're talking 38 super, 40, 45, 38 spl, 357... |

Save that brass. If you don't want it, it's worth a buck to a buck and a half a box to someone who does.

9mm is only worth reloading when you want to create loads that match the expensive premium target/defense ammo for practice. $100 per 1000 for reloads beats $250+ per 1000 premium defense ammo. use a few rounds to get a feal so you can go to the load bench and recreate a load that recreates the characteristics of the original so you can practice for $100 per 1000 use the expensive stuff only when your life depends on it.

If you're trying to reload 9mm to save money, forget it. Buy it by the case and you'll save money. Sell the brass on E-bay, and save money.
If you LIKE shooting 9mm, you like shooting it accurately, and don't mind spending MORE reloading it than buying ammo, you can reload PREMIUM 9mm ammo for just a tiny bit more than you can buy the cheap stuff. I like winchester 147 grain JHPs. Price completed ammo with those bullets? It ain't $5.00 for 50, I can tell you that....

Sindiesel, I pay $65 per case for primers. Powder runs me $10 lb. in bulk. I purchase my lead bullets from Valiant.
I use a 147 gr bullet for competition. I pay $46 per 1,000 for those. Cost goes up to $63 per 1,000. A 9mm loaded with a 147 gr bullet is much softer shooting than a 115 gr. This is the bullet I load in my wife's G34 for matches. Her gun, with the 147 gr bullet, will group under 1" at 25 yds. When you shoot as much as we do per year you look for ways to save money. Year before last we went through three 8 lb. jugs of Titegroup powder. Last year we only went through two. This job thing sucks. We both my retire again. Our jobs interfere with our shooting.

A buddy of mine just gave me 5000 124gr 9mm bullets AND 8#s of Unique.
My total cost per 1000 is the $15.00 I pay for primers. Yup it's worth loading them. |

Is 9mm worth reloading?
No - but i do it anyway. I just like tinkering with different powders, bullets, and set lengths.
