http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/tax_stru.html has lots of details on tax rates, income sales etc.

http://www.census.gov/govs/statetax/05staxrank.html has total tax rating by state on a per capita basis. South Dakota is best Vermont worst.

Last edited by wally626; October 27, 2009 at 10:03 PM. Reason: add tax rating by state

Seven states have no state income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Two others, New Hampshire and Tennessee, tax only dividend and interest income.

Cross reference that with states that have "shall issue" concealed permits and you get a good starting point.

Do you have climate preferences like no more than X days of freezing weather or X days of temperatures over 100?

On the lighter side, a state(s) that has a good source of parts for my 1967 Mustang and good hunting/fishing would be greatly appreciated.
Well, that's my home state of Michigan in spades. Containing the Motor City, we're definitely car crazy here, and you'll be able to enjoy your Mustang in the Woodward Dream Cruise and Cruisin Downriver, two of the biggest automotive events in the world. Hunting and fishing? We're the Water/Winter Wonderland of the nation, being surrounded by the Great Lakes. As far as guns and gun laws go, we're a shall issue state and have no funny laws against paramilitary weapons. Yes, we have a anti-gun governor, or at least she was when she was AG. But she decided to take a "wait-and-see" approach to the then new shall issue laws, and has finally decided that it is not the northern wild west she expected it to be, and so has remained passive on our existing laws. Michigan is also a classic open carry state, though it is mostly practiced in the rural areas, and sometimes frowned upon in the crowded counties like Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb. Though I was looking at leaving for Kentucky or Tennessee, I recently bought a new house on Lake Huron, so I'm staying. Actually, if I'm staying, it can't be too bad. My only complaint other than the county I'm presently living in, is the weather. The older I get, the less I like winter. So, I'm moving up north where the weather is even worse, go figure.

I am the weapon; my gun is a tool. It's regrettable that with some people those descriptors are reversed.

If you think California sucks then avoid NJ.

Extremely high property tax. (my 900sq ft condo is over 5k a year)
Inceasingly high income tax.
Getting a gun in NJ is MUCH harder than Cali. There you have a 10 cool off, here we have to apply for each handgun permit which has been known to take up to 6 months in some areas. Also you will be limited to buying one hg per month starting January.
The 2 most important roads in the state are toll roads. My brother spends 8 bucks a day on tolls to get to work.

NJ sucks

no, no, no

I'd look at Carson City, Nevada. Close enough to Reno for the concerts you might want to see, and the Reno Gun Show, of course. And Hot August Nights. And if you want to get away from it all just head out Hwy 50.
Nevada now has the highest unemployment in the nation. They predict that if, and when any economic recovery begins, it will lag behind the other states. So, not the best state to move to.

I regret this and I might be seen as the God of Forum PC Correctness. However, our charge is clear in this forum and also in L and CR.

One's total ideology view may form the basis for one's view of gun rights. That can be from the left, right, libertarian, vegetarian, Zarathustrian or whatever but that's not of interest in this particular forum. It's for guns related general issues.

It isn't taxes or liberals or multiculturism, etc.

We have worked hard here to keep this forum from denigenerating into a political, cultural rant festival of insults. There are plenty of forums that do that.

Thus, closed. I won't edit out the prose that doesn't get it. I leave it as a lesson of how you go astray.
