3 1/2" barrel on a 3" action 870 ?

Can you put a 3 1/2" chambered barrel on a 3" chambered 870 express. I thought maybe remington "toughed up" the action on the 3 1/2's and it might not be safe on a standard 12.

You can put the 3 1/2" barrels on either a 2 3/4" or 3" reciever. You can also put the shorter chambered barrels on the 3 1/2" receiver. Just make sure you only use shells that will work with the correct receiver and barrel.

Do not try to shoot 3 1/2" shells on a receiver made for 3" shells even if you have the 3 1/2" barrel on it.

Its different and dont even consider it. Some unlucky guy down the line might just read the barrel and shoot a 3.5 out of a 2 3/4 or 3" reciever and have a big problem. Not saying it would happen but it can. Stick to the rite barrel for the gun to be on the safe side.
The 3.5 is called the Super Magnum for a reason.

On that note, I'm looking to buy a new barrel for an older Wingmaster I own. It only fires 2 3/4", so does Remington even make an 18 or 20" replacement barrel in blue that's labeled for 2 3/4" only?
