Reloading 7mm Rem Mag

a friend is wanting me to get him started in reloading....i've never loaded for 7mm rem mag that he has....but anyway....He has some Hornady 154 gr. sst interlock bullets he wants to load....i have searched various manuals but thought i might get some suggestions here...I am wanting to use H4350 with the 154 gr. sst Hornady Interlock bullets...I don't see any exact load data for this powder...I'll have Remington cases and Winchester WLR primers...I have seen some data that suggest the WLR primer vs magnum primers for 7mm rem mag with H4350 but it was different grain/manufacture bullet.

So any suggestions for starting load with following components? recommend something totally different? I have these components at hand so was trying to use what I have vs going and buying other items.....although I will I have to.

154 gr Hornady Interlock
H4350
Winchester WLR (non magnum)
Remington Cases
His rifle is Ruger M77Mk II

I wouldn't use 4350 for a magnum,it isn't technically a magnum powder, its a little fast, but it can be used for lighter bullets,you'll be limited on velocity.You should use 7828,RL-25,or even 4831 to make the 7Mag work like it is suppose to.You should also use mag primers.

Winchester Supreme 780 powder seems to give top velocities for both 150 and 160 gr bullets in 7mm Rem Mag. Top H4350 loads shown are more than 100 fps less with both 150s and 160s.

That said, 54 grains with 154s should be a safe starting load of H4350.

Color me from the old school but I use heavy bullets with my 7mm Rem Mag. One of the best performing bullets out there is the 200 grain Nosler lead tip bullet and the 7mm RM pushes it out the barrel with authority. I use Retumbo powder, accuracy and velocity are excellent.

You'll do good with 61.0-62.0gr H4831 with the Hornady 154 bullet. Mag primer.
Rl#25 works well also, but, you use a lot! Excellent accuracy with H4831 and that 154.

IMR4350 works great in mine, but with 140 SGK. The newer H-4831 is faster than the 1970s version and doesn't provide the velocity. I found a bunch of Interbonds on sale, so I'll try IMR7828 with them. Over the years, in 4 rifles, the best accuracy was right at max.

I have tried several powders in my 7mmRM loads and by far the best is Accurate MAGPRO.

I found it gives almost perfect case fill, great velocities, and is very accurate with a variety of bullets. I am working on loads for a 150 Scirocco II right now in the 3100+ range and it is going as expected. (26" Model 70)

Other powders I have on hand for 7mmRM: Retumbo, vvN560, vvN570.

The vvN570 gives top speeds but MAGPRO is more accurate and I am very fast already.

No powder is immune to temperature differential. Some are more or less which is what you want to know. I am not sure.

I can tell you that I haven't noticed any issues and I work up loads at 70 degrees and hunt in about 10-30 degrees. The small amount of shift encountered is rarely an issue except for long range match shooting so I don't concern myself with that at all.

I would maybe avoid a powder that I KNEW to suffer more severely to temp swings though.

If i were you i'd go with something in the IMR4831 or Alliant Reloder19 range.

Rifletom,
I stopped using RL25. While it gave good velocities, accuracy was not good.
Lazerroni actually says NOT to use RL25 when reloading their cartridges for that reason.
I have switched to RL26.
Velocity still up there, but accuracy greatly improved. Plus more temp stable.
I would not use either of of those powders for a 130gr bullet.
